50 Cent Says New Songs Aren't Up To Snuff, Starts Over

"It's pretty good 'n' all, but it's no 'In Da Club.'"

Phil Freeman (Phil Freeman), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 20:58 (twenty-two years ago)

i don't understand. what's the pathetic part?

William Wiggins, Tuesday, 16 March 2004 21:02 (twenty-two years ago)

"50 Cent"

dean! (deangulberry), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 21:04 (twenty-two years ago)

"In Da Club" will become the "Loveless" of 2003! Perfectionalist alert!

donut bitch (donut), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 21:04 (twenty-two years ago)

"up to snuff"

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 21:05 (twenty-two years ago)

this is one of those things that's only funny or pathetic or whatever if you're Phil Freeman, isn't it?

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 21:05 (twenty-two years ago)

(I meant "Get Rich or Die Tryin'", sorry..x-post)

donut bitch (donut), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 21:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Changed my mind...this is the most pathetic story ever (or at least of today...the cultural race to the bottom is speeding up quite a bit lately).

Referring to Simpson's role on MTV's "Newlyweds," Bush told the audience, "Jessica Simpson is here with us, which means we've finally introduced reality TV to the Lincoln Theater." He meant Ford's Theatre, of course, but everyone knows President Lincoln was shot there...Simpson, whose verbal gaffes are also legendary, pulled another one Sunday visiting the White House, our sources say. The singer was introduced to Interior Secretary Gale Norton and gushed: "You've done a nice job decorating the White House."

Phil Freeman (Phil Freeman), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 21:08 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah, an artist deciding their recent work isn't good enough to be released and that they'll try to make better work really is fucking awful, isn't it? I mean, why don't they just release the detritus instead? thanks for showing us the way, Phil Freeman!

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 21:10 (twenty-two years ago)

xpost, unfortunately, because that second one is pretty f'ing awful.

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 21:12 (twenty-two years ago)

>this is one of those things that's only funny or pathetic or whatever if you're Phil Freeman, isn't it?

I just think the story's funny because 50 Cent is a pathetic waste of oxygen, and the chances of him actually coming up with a song worth hearing, no matter how hard he tries, are about equivalent to me flapping my arms all the way to the moon.

Phil Freeman (Phil Freeman), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 21:15 (twenty-two years ago)

gosh! I hadn't figured that out. thanks for the clarification!

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 21:16 (twenty-two years ago)

But songs/albums that take a whole lot of work to put together in the efforts of topping a previous hit = usually don't measure up.

(x-post)

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 21:16 (twenty-two years ago)

I bet 50's new record and watching you flapping your arms all the way to the moon are both terribly entertaining, though.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 21:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Phil you mad? I thought that you'd be happy I made it.

50 Cent (Matt Helgeson), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 21:20 (twenty-two years ago)

in the simpson vein: apparently jessica's little sister amber is getting her own show on mtv. its about how a tv actress making her crossover as a singer. her struggle is sure to be enlightening.

bill stevens (bscrubbins), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 21:21 (twenty-two years ago)

but will it enlighten the way this thread enlightens?

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 21:25 (twenty-two years ago)

it remains to be seen.

possibly.. assuming nick lachey makes guest appearances to constantly talk shit.

bill stevens (bscrubbins), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 21:25 (twenty-two years ago)

this thread isn't up to snuff. we should start over.

fact checking cuz (fcc), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 21:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 21:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Except 50 Cent really ISN'T all that. I am not so dismissive as Phil, though.

Most Pathetic Thread Ever

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 21:29 (twenty-two years ago)

One night during my freshman year of high school I was playing a game of kick the can and whilst attempting to rush up to kick the can I ran headfirst into a street sign, resulting in being tagged by the can-guard and 23 stitches to my forehead. I'd like to say alcohol was involved but sadly it wasn't. This is far more pathetic than anything 50 Cent has ever done. Now we shall never speak of this again.

Gear! (Gear!), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 21:35 (twenty-two years ago)

I like that jessica simpson story a whole fucking lot. Its like "Legally Blonde 2.5"

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 22:02 (twenty-two years ago)

this thread isn't up to snuff. we should start over.

C/D: Jessica Simpson letting her handlers make her say staged airhead remarks within earshot of journos just so she can keep her name in the papers.

m.e.a. (m.e.a.), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 22:07 (twenty-two years ago)

what a fucking dork. whatever respect i may have had for that sorry ass SOB has now vaporised for good. and i'm even a crypto-homophobe myself! (or at least, that's what my ex-girlfriend used to say)

Jay Kid (Jay K), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 22:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Phil, are you familiar with the definition and uses of the word pathetic?

Francis Watlington (Francis Watlington), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 22:49 (twenty-two years ago)

50 Cent doesn't have blast beats or complicated time-signature changes, that's Phil's definition of pathetic*.

*I kid, I kid. Phil's good people.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 23:10 (twenty-two years ago)

I was a freshman in college. I really liked this guy in the dorm next door named Phil. I decided to make him a compilation tape of some not-so-subtle romantic songs. I evidently had a really old tape player because rather than record tape-to-tape, it recorded what was played through the speakers (even though it was a dual tape player). I gave him the tape the next day (a Friday). On Monday I asked if he'd had a chance to listen to the tape. He said he had -- he had gone home for the weekend and he and his dad got a good laugh from listening to me sing each song along with the tape. Ugh. He said he thought it was cute. I felt like a complete and utter dork.

Needless to say, we didn't ever go out.

This is probably true.

Sym (shmuel), Wednesday, 17 March 2004 00:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Maybe if he'd be pathetic if he burned down a church
