dieblucasdie (dieblucasdie), Wednesday, 17 March 2004 06:04 (twenty-two years ago)

i also have decided on the worst pixies lyric--which as to be "he's got friends like paco picopiedra/ la muneca"

devon powers (popmatters devon), Wednesday, 17 March 2004 06:07 (twenty-two years ago)

I also love: "You're so pretty when you're unfaithful to me"

dieblucasdie (dieblucasdie), Wednesday, 17 March 2004 06:10 (twenty-two years ago)

i also love "her body a rocking chair for my soul"

devon powers (popmatters devon), Wednesday, 17 March 2004 06:14 (twenty-two years ago)

though, on close examination, it almost sounds like a john mayer lyric

My Mother said something to me
When I Was 23
She Spilt A Cup Of Tea
All Over My Knee
I Said,
Mother, Oh My GAWD!
What Have You Done?

She Said Never Mind Son
Your Pantaloon Is Undone
I Can See Your Well Hung

Then She Fiddled With My Cords

the "You Fuckin' DIE!!" bit. Those Pixies are mental. WHAT is the point of that? Oh, and the "He was into field hockey players" bit.

Why do cupids and angels
continually haunt her dreams
like memories of another life
is painted on her shirt in capitals
out on the free free way
there's only she and the they
represented by the lights
we went to the store and bought something great
which samples this song from washington state
go little record go
it is named by
some guy named joe
and the words
are the letters of the words
said
electrically played
for outer space and those of they who paid
this song is twice occurred
and now its time to go
away on holiday.

o. nate (onate), Wednesday, 17 March 2004 19:38 (twenty-two years ago)

I remember asking a Spanish friend of mine to translate 'Oh My Golly', 'Isla de Encanta' and the start of 'Vamos' for me. She sat for a while with her fingers on the rewind and play buttons going back and forth over Vamos repeating "It makes no sense, it makes no sense." Once she had provided her best translation, I agreed.

Favorite lyric:

One night upon my motorcycle through the desert I sped / I smashed my body so that all my friends thought I was dead / My sister held me close and whispered to my bleeding head / "You are the son of a motherfucker." 1..2..3..4

mmmmsalt (Graeme), Wednesday, 17 March 2004 19:55 (twenty-two years ago)

I remember asking a Spanish friend of mine to translate 'Oh My Golly', 'Isla de Encanta' and the start of 'Vamos' for me.

it's very heavy Puerto Rican dialect, maybe that accounts for some incomprehension from a Spaniard.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 17 March 2004 20:19 (twenty-two years ago)

"la muñeca = the wrist (i have never understood the connection)
-- gygax! (gygax0...), March 17th, 2004 12:06 AM."

Muneca also means "doll"... it's a term of endearment.

Ben Boyer (Ben Boyer), Wednesday, 17 March 2004 20:41 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm surprised how many people's lyrics are from the song "subbacultha."
which to me confirms that trompe le monde is way underrated.

devon powers (popmatters devon), Wednesday, 17 March 2004 22:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Someone's already taken the 'he tried to molest me in the parking lot' one so I reckon I'll go for:

JP Almeida (JP Almeida), Wednesday, 17 March 2004 23:07 (twenty-two years ago)

"Manta Ray"

All in a day
All for me
Trek across the space
It'll be just like they say

Oo, oo,
Oo, oo
Yeah

Since I am told
Month number three
He has no memory
Of flyers in the night

Oo, oo
Oo, oo
Yeah

They went away [2X]
My manta ray is all right [4X]

Police they say
My mother too
A fish from Mon Shamoo (?)
Above my head tonight

Oo, oo
Oo, oo
Yeah

There is a way [2X]
My manta ray is all right [7X]
(While Black Francis screams "All right!")
All right
police they say
my mother too
a fish from moshamboo (?)
above my head at nights

ooh ooh ooh ooh, yeah!

Black Francis must have liked this lyric as well - didn't it get used in two different Pixies songs?

The Yellow Kid, Monday, 26 July 2004 06:38 (twenty-one years ago)

btw, what's the "then she fiddled with my cords" from?

It's from a pastiche Pixies song called 'Motherbanger' that was given away with a magazine some years ago.

i also have decided on the worst pixies lyric--which as to be "he's got friends like paco picopiedra/ la muneca"

Bit late to the thread (ha) but muñeca can also be a derogatory term for a homosexual, used like "fag" or "bender".

bohford, Monday, 26 July 2004 19:53 (twenty-one years ago)

"paco picapiedra" is what Fred Flintstone is known as south of the (USA) border.

― gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 17 March 2004 20:19 (9 years ago)

This is kind of reassuring, if true. I had a similar experience of trying to get a Spanish woman to explain the lyrics of Isla de Ecanta to me and her telling me that they were just gibberish. Mind you, this was in the days before you could find everything on the internet so I had no access to the Spanish lyrics in written form. And I was abroad without my record collection so I had to try to remember what the words were, which was pretty difficult as I didn't speak Spanish. So it's quite possible I was talking gibberish in the first place.

Hearing moyes confirmedare we hearing m (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Friday, 14 June 2013 22:05 (twelve years ago)

So I applied basically
