His name has a "w". Um it's Ok, as I remember.

Mr Mime (Andrew Thames), Wednesday, 17 March 2004 13:41 (twenty-two years ago)

it's no "it wasn't me"

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 17 March 2004 13:42 (twenty-two years ago)

though i do lament that all the real jamaicans have driven all the fake jamaicans from our pop charts

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 17 March 2004 13:43 (twenty-two years ago)

"The secret is he's white!" Nice choice of name then

Mr Mime (Andrew Thames), Wednesday, 17 March 2004 13:44 (twenty-two years ago)

I stand corrected, about the name. Though I tend to think there was a ten year gep between 'Informer' and for example 'Gimme the light.'

lukey (Lukey G), Wednesday, 17 March 2004 13:50 (twenty-two years ago)

in the interim: ini kamoze, shaggy

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 17 March 2004 13:51 (twenty-two years ago)

the motherfucking FUGEES

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 17 March 2004 13:51 (twenty-two years ago)

there's been a thin, but traceable, thread running throughout the 90s

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 17 March 2004 13:51 (twenty-two years ago)

The bits we all know...

"Informer" "licky boom boom down" "come with a nice young lady"

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 17 March 2004 13:52 (twenty-two years ago)

In Canada, this song was inescapable. Therefore, any merits the song may have are outweighed because I became completely sick of it through overexposure.
I couldn't believe that Snow had a successful comeback a couple of years ago. He was definitely a fad that I expected I'd never hear from again.
My dad lives a couple of km from the jail where Snow used to live.

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Wednesday, 17 March 2004 13:53 (twenty-two years ago)

The Fugees? I accept Ini Kamoze but Shaggy is from New york and the fugees are Hip Hop.

lukey (Lukey G), Wednesday, 17 March 2004 14:03 (twenty-two years ago)

a true story:

my ex-girfriend's brother once stumbled upon snow in germany. this must have been sometime during the mid-nineties. snow was on tour, and my ex's brother being a musician as well, they quickly hit it off in the hotel bar. soon, however, snow began to exhibit hostile and racist behaviour: "i hate niggers", was among the thing he said, and at a point he got himself worked up to an extent that his crew had to talk him down again.

the scariest point occured when snow grabbed my ex's bro by his shoulders and sneered: "come hate with me!" into his face in a really intense and fucked-up manner.

my ex's brother couldn't quite keep pace in these proceedings and left the party. he wasn't really up to minority-bashing, if ya'll know what i'm saying. and how weird isn't it with this racism, snow's own influences taken into consideration???

believe it or not, this is a first hand true story. i swear.

Jay Kid (Jay K), Wednesday, 17 March 2004 15:24 (twenty-two years ago)

my memory of this song is much better than the actual song.

Sean M (Sean M), Wednesday, 17 March 2004 15:38 (twenty-two years ago)

I have to agree with Barry. I was a young lad in Canada at the time, and I swear to god if I ever hear that song again I'm gonna strangle the nearest white guy in baggy clothes. The only context where the song would be ok is if I was at a dance with girls who are taller than me in a hot gymnasium, and it must be followed by a slo-dance to "November Rain" where I have my head firmly lodged between boobies through all 28 guitar solos.

Mike Salmo (salmo), Wednesday, 17 March 2004 15:50 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll stick up for it--indeed, the whole album is somewhat decent, not just the (two?) singles.

John 2, Friday, 19 March 2004 02:01 (twenty-two years ago)

snow beat up my friend in high school!
