I had this disc. I think my attempts to copy it to tape and play it on my Spectrum were foiled by R:Tape Loading Errors.

TS: Frankie Goes To Hollywood vs that Queen game from the late 90s.

There was something a bit weird even then about loading games from 7" vinyl, even indirectly.

I'm trying to figure out how this is possible

Frequency Shift Coding.

Higher frequency = 1, lower = 0.

Isn't it pretty much the same as how modems work?

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 18 March 2004 01:03 (twenty-one years ago)

this is completely insane

Not sure how modems work.

The Roland MC202, a digital (but pre-MIDI) sequencer with built-in mini synth -- complete with "chiclet" style keyboard -- stored data into cassette tapes this way. So you could record audio tracks from this thing onto cassette tape and then backup the digital data onto the very same cassette, which always seemed strange to me.

That's really interesting, but even more interesting was learning that they guy who sang 'Camouflage' became Frank Sidebottom.

The goal of 'The Shaky Game' is to drive Shakin' Stevens' car to the center of a maze while avoiding bats, who bite you.

This sounds like the greatest game ev-er.
