this is really tough. Just when I'm about to say AC/DC gets the nod because Bon is willing to overlook physical beauty, it occurs to me that Led Zep is administering the affection rather than merely accepting it. Led Zep puts more work into their rave-up but AC/DC never loses the beat throughout the chaos.

AC/DC gets the nod. Plus Bon Scott uses the phrase "back door man" more effectively in "Dirty Deeds."

I love em both, but bow to Zep, totally, here.

"Whole Lotta Rosie" is just a helluva lot more fun.

Alex, I agree "Whole Lotta Rosie" is a helluva lot of fun. Both of these bands were on their way up and their energies were outstanding on each of those tracks.

This is a bit like comparing champagne to champagne.

"Whole Lotta Love" for the theremin/musique concrete/feedback/sub-orgasmic vocal improv/pastiche (in concert) middle part and all the stereo panning stuff. And if that's too geeky for ya, it has like the most memorable riff of all time. I can't even remember the riff for WLR (or if it even has one) even though I listened to If You Want Blood all the time in Grade 8. I will confess though that WLL's bombastic "Way down inside . . . WO-MAN . . . You neeeeed . . . . LOOOOOOOOOOOOVE" vocal moment can be a little hard to take.

"Whole Lotta Love" is a great song, but other than the freakout section, the song is "You Need Love" by Willie Dixon recorded by Muddy Waters.

"Whole Lotta Rosie" is also a song about loving a voluptous woman like "Baby Got Back" and "Fat Bottomed Girls", so it wins.

To be honest, I really wouldn't care if I never heard either of 'em again.

If these songs are champagne, then they're champagne from a bottle that was opened 35 years ago and has since gone very, very flat.

rosie!! zep can nibble on my toejam.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Thursday, 18 March 2004 10:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Lurex you are wrong, zep changed the course of nusical history forever and as such deserve nothing but the very hight=est praise. Ac/dc are a good band, they might even be a great band but zep are on a different plaine from everyone else.
