...to either make you feel better, or assist you in feeling worse?

My picks:
Elvis Costello -- Imperial Bedroom
Blur -- "This is a Low"

devon (popmatters devon), Thursday, 18 March 2004 21:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Mogwai - CODY

If I actually want a good cry, I'll stick on The For Carnation and skip to Moonbeams.

damian_nz (damian_nz), Thursday, 18 March 2004 21:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Sun Ra's Out There a Minute usually makes me feel better.

(Why would I ever feel like sh*t though when my job turns me into a fucking robot?)

Rockist Scientist, Thursday, 18 March 2004 21:34 (twenty-two years ago)

to feel worse: Palace's Days in the Wake

dean! (deangulberry), Thursday, 18 March 2004 21:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Pet Shop Boys - Discography makes me feel great! Until Jealousy comes on and then I want to cry. But DJ Culture is just around the bend!

i was having an almost difficult time on mushrooms and my roommate put on the first song from Spiritualized's "Ladies and Gentlemen" and it totally made everything better.

JaXoN (JasonD), Thursday, 18 March 2004 21:50 (twenty-two years ago)

when i was 8 or so, and my parents were hassling me or was upset about something, i would listen to slippery when wet and feel a lot better.

when i need to get picked up, Teenage Riot, Shake Some Action and Starry Eyes.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Thursday, 18 March 2004 22:18 (twenty-two years ago)

When I was younger I would use NIN's The Downward Spiral for this, but now I think Low's The Curtain Hits the Cast is a much healthier choice.

boldbury, Thursday, 18 March 2004 22:26 (twenty-two years ago)

My Dying Bride - Turn Loose The Swans

of course when I'm down I want to listen to downer music, for the ol' pat on the back that says "Yeah I know how it is..."

The Handsome Family - In the Air
the The - Dusk
Low - Trust
Yo La Tengo - I Can Hear the Heart Beating As One
Saint Etienne - Good Humor

although Since I Left You by the Avalanches is a guaranteed pick-me-up.

Gear! (Gear!), Thursday, 18 March 2004 23:52 (twenty-two years ago)

okay I guess I don't know how to italicize

Gear! (Gear!), Thursday, 18 March 2004 23:53 (twenty-two years ago)

feel better: a song such as Saint Etienne: He's on the Phone, Flying Saucer Attack: Outdoor Miner.
To Feel worse or the same: Drugstore : s/t, Tindersticks : (s/t debut, but not as much lately), Plastikman : Closer (a recent fave for capturing urban isolation, try riding around the suburbs of Berlin on the S-bahn with it in your discman sometimes -- it's quite hte sobering experience)

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Friday, 19 March 2004 00:04 (twenty-two years ago)

bob hund's second album, the "omslag: martin kann" one.

Kornél Kovács (Kornél Kovács), Friday, 19 March 2004 01:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Usually I put on the Stooges or Richard Hell, who transmute my unhappiness into healthy aggression like the alchemists they are. Otherwise it's straight up Morrissey. That's when I enjoy feeling like poop. New Order has the same effect, strangely (as, of course, does Joy Division).

Though to tell the honest truth though, last time I got dumped I listened to "Cry Me a River" on repeat for an entire weekend. Last time I dumped somebody else it was every version I had of "A Fine Romance" for a the better part of a week.

alec, Friday, 19 March 2004 01:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Always Saint Etienne, any album really, but lately Too Young To Die, Good Humor, and So Tough.

*sobs*

dog latin (dog latin), Friday, 19 March 2004 02:08 (twenty-two years ago)

to feel better 'Lets hear it for the boy' by Deniece Williams and 'we've only just begun' by the Carpenters, and 'absolute beginners' by Bowie. Anything by Dido makes mwe feel terrible.
