Outkast are huge; Cee Lo and Killer Mike are kinda big, Goodie Mob used to be pretty well-known.

But what of the other Dungeon family members. Are there unheralded classics out there, or are they obscure for a reason?

I saw a promo copy of Slim Calhoun's solo record and Outkast was all over it... I was *this* close to buying it, but didn't cuz I haven't heard anything about it. I figure either it's a lost classic or it sucks.

the Dungeon Family album itself is fantastic. Tomita samples! D&D outfits! I love it.

Backbone never gets mentioned enough.

the skinny is one of my fav dungeon fam cuts. i love "ALL THESE LONELY GIRLS WANNA FUUUUUCK / IT'S OKAAAAY (it's alright, girl / it's okay)." i can't find the album ANYWHERE, not even on the internet.

huh I wonder why that is. Does it just have shitty distro or something? what label is it on? I probably would've bought it if I'd have been able to hear it first.

duh - it's on Outkast's vanity label. No wonder you can't find it. Whole thing's probably in limbo what with LA Reid getting the boot from Arista.

Sleepy Brown is the hotness.

Yes, make sure you hear his (first?) solo single I Can't Wait featuring OutKast from the BarberShop 2 soundtrack.

i finally got the Dungeon Family's cd, it's out of print but got a used copy. Holy o_O I wish I'd heard this earlier.....slabs of funk, off kilter rhythms, six all star MCs. This will be in the player a while!

First time I've ever seen a pic of the dungeon.

"holiday/12 scanner" is one of the best beats of the 90s. it's still unlike anything else i've ever heard.

witchdoctor - "holiday/12 scanner" (1997)

some basic info on the producers, very loose dungeon fam affiliates.

the witchdoctor album overall has aged really well. i thought it was too dark and meandering at the time, outside of some highlights. listening now, i still don't love all of the beats, but his persona of dope dealing religious anarchist has to be some level on influence on kendrick. i know folks here have named outkast as a progenitor of kendrick and i think the witchdoctor album is a really important piece of the foundation.
