There's a scratch DJ called Mr Thing, they might be related.

I saw her performing with Beenie Man on TOTP and wasn't impressed with her at all. If you're going to have someone come on and sing a hook I prefer to see someone who can sing a bit but I guess I'm a bit old fashioned.

Yeah, she was way out of tune on TOTP but she sounds fine on record, which I guess is where people are going to hear her.

on those two records her voice is being run through Autotune, an automatic pitch-correction effect that makes you sound in tune, and can also be used for more extreme effects if you turn it up -that's how Beenie Man's voice does those weird slurs in "Dude", for example (and why Ms Thing herself sounds so cool on the Nice Up the Dance tune). So that's probably why she got on the records without having to be much of a singer.

i was wondering about that!

Ohh, I probably don't belong on this thread but too bad (!)

"There's a scratch DJ called Mr Thing, they might be related.
-- Nick H (nhill8...), March 19th, 2004."

They could communicate through the Fall's 'Telephone Thing'

Sasha (sgh), Monday, 23 August 2004 01:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Or through the Troggs' "Wild Thing."

I like 'Regular'.

Any thoughts on her album? I've seen it around for mad prices.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Monday, 23 August 2004 22:08 (twenty-one years ago)

one thought: i didnt think i'd hear 'sweet soca music' again

other thoughts: sounds aight! 2 on fiesta, one on mad guitar, one on the okayish new don corleon tighty tighty riddim. some of the crossover tabla skitter raphop filler is quite bad, here and there tho...

i've also seen it cheap and am tempted to pick it up - i love both of her tracks - dude and the one on nice up the dance - but am worried that these may be 2 best things she's done...

"Pum Pum" (on Mad Instruments rhythm?) is quite good, if a little repetitive, esp. in the last minute or so. Not seen her LP anywhere.
