ILM Ass Shaking Chamber #1

Heh heh... well, David's having too much fun, so I'm going to start one on my own.

The difference here being that this series will concentrate on dance/club music of various forms. I stress this, because the songs I'll be making available for listening won't be really verse-chorus-verse-chorus-breakdown-chorus-chorus-fadeout type songs per se... but more like 6-7 minute slabs of rhythm... usually of the electronic form, and usually digitized from a vinyl 12" (but I stress "usually").

And to put it as softly as possible, isolating a slab of wax made to make crowds exercise into a lone Mp3 in cyberspace removes a lot of context, so if you find these songs "monotonous" or "repetitive".. well, that's usually the point in the club context.

This'll also force me to digitize some stuff previously available on vinyl only, for all you aspiring digital Djs out there.

Anyway, here's the first candidate to be judged. It's 6:38.. around 9 megs long, so be patient.

Sorry Brian about my last post. It is working now.

A positive surprise. I never really liked dance and house and techno. But this is quite good. More varied than the usual techno stuff. All right even without ecstasy and stuff. Is this IDM? Nevertheless after four minutes I had enough.

I here a strong MBM influence. This alone is enough to make me fall deeply and madly in love. Man, I need to re-energize that portion of my listening habits.

Dan Perry, Friday, 19 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Yeah, I really like it. I posted my comments about it on the Listenening Chamber 12 thread :)

Brian, a suggestion: I have a feeling ALL these songs will start "dragging" about 2 minutes from the end because that's where the mix-in would happen. And it's going to make all of them seem too long and repetitious. What about chopping that bit off?

Tracer Hand, Friday, 19 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I was going to make the same MBM suggestion, but felt I didn't know them well enough to make the call.

'I second that motion' ... veers close to Big Beat for me, but thankfully not too close .. sorry ethan, if you were being serious.

Dare, Friday, 19 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

do i have anything in common with dare?

ethan, Sunday, 21 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

isn't dance music supposed to be funky?

Michael Taylor, Sunday, 21 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

haha ... I wasn't jabbing at you, man. Big beat just loses its substance for me really quickly .. listening-wise, at home, I'd rather hear something more complex .. and at a club, I'd rather be dancing to drum-n-bass or house (don't like trance).

I can't think of many big beat records I like .. Chem. Brothers, Crystal Method .. Nightmares on Wax sometimes sounds more big beat to me than anything else, I like him. But don't come with the Fatboy Slim, unless it's "Praise You" ...

'what you figure, rhyme-wise, I do the figure eight' chris.

if this is good dance music then i strongly recommend you listen to this: 4 the raver

Well, I guess it's time to reveal who and what is the ILM Ass Shaking Chamber #1 entry is... It's extremely lame.

Basin Jently "I.A.M.E.L.E.C.T.R.O.", which is a remix of Meat Beat Manifesto's "I Am Electro"/"Original Control".

Why is this lame? Well, because it's me.

I was finishing this up in a mad dash to get something done before my flight down to L.A. in mid October... To my surprise, I actually finished it (somewhat.. need to do some retouches here and there) to a degree I was happy with.

Now, I'm sure all you artists out there know the feeling of wanting to share your freshly finished creations immediately with everybody you know and don't know. Having one too many Alaskan Ambers also fuels the impatience. So I decided to make this track the first anonymous entry -- to get opinions on it without people being self- conscious about praising or "offending" me.

Of course, it took me a few hours after to realize what a cheesy move this was. But it was too late. So I left it.

Though I'll say that I didn't start this only to showcase that track, I did earnestly intend on doing an "Ass Shaking Chamber" thread series, regardless.

No more me tracks again. Promise.
