Kanye West, "All Falls Down" video

It's not often that I see a hip-hop video that's more Michel Gondry than Hype Williams. Pretty high concept. Oddly enough, though, this morning MTV mis-tagged it as Chingy!

What's the concept?

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 19 March 2004 17:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Kanye dresses up like Chingy

The Huckle-Buck (Horace Mann), Friday, 19 March 2004 17:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Kanye West POV following his honey through an airport security check, and then having to put himself on the x-ray belt. At the end he makes it to his limo, where it looks like Common is his driver.

West first has to put all his jewelry into the bucket, since it keeps setting off the machine.

JaXoN (JasonD), Friday, 19 March 2004 18:03 (twenty-two years ago)

haha omg fun fact of the year!!

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Friday, 19 March 2004 18:36 (twenty-two years ago)

I think it is very nice and that Kanye could of done better.

Pooh, Friday, 19 March 2004 19:03 (twenty-two years ago)

i thought it was pleasant.

common plays the airport security guy, too.

i just saw it. pretty boring, despite it being practically a commercial for Stacey Dash's badunkadunk. I liked how they put some realistic public-bathroom-echo on the vocals during that one part, though.

Al (sitcom), Friday, 19 March 2004 21:31 (twenty-two years ago)

if that's a commercial, send me in the direction of the nearest store

JaXoN (JasonD), Friday, 19 March 2004 22:50 (twenty-two years ago)

oh, and if i'm getting all creepy over actresses in recent videos, please let me make an oogly comment on Samantha Mumba in the last Murphy Lee video

two months pass...
maybe this is old news (you guys have too many kanye threads for real), but what's up the editing out of the word "white" when he says "the white man gets paid offa all of that" in the video??

its strange what they decide to censor. on power 106 in LA they bleep out 'crack' in the 'crackhead by crack' line, but the white man part is in.

id say just stop worrying so much about what is censored and just focus on the gratuitious nipple shots in the first minute of the video.

MTV has a well-documented history of excising racially loaded language (and weapons, and brand names, and drugs...). It doesn't make any sense and is applied totally inconsistently.

This video blows. It totally detracts from the song, which is probably the best one on the record. I don't mind videos that have nothing to do with the song, but this one is just dull, and it seems to go out of its way to take the punch out of the best parts of the song (like the echo effect that's been inserted when he is in the bathroom at the beginning of the "I say fuck the police" verse).

However, Stacey Dash = extremely extremely hot.

Maybe the video would be great to some other song, or with the sound off.

the rapping x-rayed kanye is a really nice touch.

m. (mitchlnw), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 10:29 (twenty-one years ago)

He totally looks like a muppet. Like in that episode of Angel.

JaXoN OTM; this video is ALL ABOUT DASH.

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 10:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Why is he going through the x-ray machine when he's not a passenger on the plane?
Also, isn't he going in the wrong direction (head-first when he gets in legs first)?

Joe Kay (feethurt), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 13:36 (twenty-one years ago)

It's the physical equivalent of his sped-up soul samples.

rare is the man who can successfully use his boss's sister as a video hoe- for that alone, i approve of this video

also, the first time i heard this song was via the video and i still "got it". it woulda been much worse as a literal translation of the lyrics; instead, we get the hot chick, the jewelry, the fashion, the guest cameos (syleena johnson, common), yet it really wasn't the same ol' same ol'. ya gotta hand it to Jaws for freshening thangs up a bit...

naturalaw-dp, Tuesday, 22 June 2004 21:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Where have I seen the woman in this video before?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 21:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Clueless

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 21:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Ah yes. She goes out with the guy who shaves his head because he has to "keep it real".

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 21:07 (twenty-one years ago)

They were the best couple and maybe the best 2 things from that movie.
