What albums are not due a reevaluation? What music is rated accurately by critics? Which artists are neither over or underrated? What has the critical consensus got right?

'Astral Weeks.' Only wish Christgau liked it more.

'Classic' albums that for me have lived up to expectations:

Pet Sounds
Marquee Moon
Forever Changes
Psycadelic Shack
All the Dexy's Albums
New Boots and Panties
More Specials
The Queen is Dead

Hootie and the Blowfish really did suck

REM really are...quite good.

paulhw (paulhw), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 19:57 (twenty-two years ago)

... sometimes.

Jazzbo (jmcgaw), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 21:45 (twenty-two years ago)

New Order's career has been rated fairly.

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 22:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Most of the artists & bands in subcultures/scenes that are only known/rated within them but never 'broke' into the mainstream are rated fairly.

American pop/rock music really is shite.

I like the way Snrub thinks...

music critics are generally wankers anyway, so why take any notice of what they say ? how many albums/cd's have you bought, which on initial listening have seemed a bit flat, and have then got better with each listening ? i doubt critics listen to many of the cd's they review at all.

those that can, do; those that cant, criticise.

Forever Changes is, in my mind, way better than any other record on this thread.

The Beatles. They were that great and that important.

More Specials

Great album, but I haven't seen it canonized much. I consider it underrated. Particularly alongside their debut.

Up until about a month ago, I would have said that Dylan's shitty 80s albums were properly rated.
