holy fuck, who knew that he produced Dead Prez's "Bigger than Hip Hop"?!

JaXoN (JasonD), Thursday, 1 April 2004 00:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah he did...one of my favorite's of his.

Why the fuck does no one like "In Cold Blood" by Scarface. That track is amazing.

djdee2005, Thursday, 1 April 2004 00:57 (twenty-two years ago)

it's on my list!

Al (sitcom), Thursday, 1 April 2004 01:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Much respect due to the A-L ooh.

djdee2005, Thursday, 1 April 2004 07:17 (twenty-two years ago)

eleven years pass...

i don't think i'll ever really get it. maybe i have to immerse myself, but i REALLY don't want to. maybe its like how so many people read and like jonathan franzen? i'm posting on a moribund kanye thread on purpose. don't want to post on the 10,000 post deluxe kanye threads. it is one of the only modern day conundrums that i have. so uninteresting outside of the PR spectacle and even that it so zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. having to live through the ups and down of puff daddy for, what, 400 years, i think it was 400 years, may have made me gun shy when it came to megalomaniacal page fillers. i dunno. if i got the inspired genius part of it, everything would be easier. but i never hear it. listening to old talib kweli remixes to catch that lightning...so unappetizing!

if you are bored, give me one song/production credit that says it all. like, THERE, there you go. nuff said. the man is a force to reckon with.

or don't, i love you anyway.

Runaway

Agent Zero (Treeship), Tuesday, 16 February 2016 00:40 (ten years ago)

Famous on the new album is good too, you just need to ignore everything he says

Agent Zero (Treeship), Tuesday, 16 February 2016 00:41 (ten years ago)

Hold my liquor is good too. I only like ye's drawn out, emo songs

Agent Zero (Treeship), Tuesday, 16 February 2016 00:42 (ten years ago)

you can't tell me nothing

lute bro (brimstead), Tuesday, 16 February 2016 03:42 (ten years ago)

i went through his whole catalog recently and the answer is "paranoid"

HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Tuesday, 16 February 2016 03:43 (ten years ago)

"runaway" is like the opposite of the answer

HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Tuesday, 16 February 2016 03:44 (ten years ago)

No

Agent Zero (Treeship), Tuesday, 16 February 2016 03:58 (ten years ago)

Probably everyone will name a different track, but I really think the answer is All of the Lights.

(That said, I haven't spent time w/ the new stuff and am kind of fatigued with Kanye's shtick at the moment.)

I'll be curious to know if any of these win you over!

you can't tell me nothing

I'd second "Can't Tell Me Nothing." Probably the best distillation of what Kanye is about, a mix of narcissism and "I'm just being honest" faux-humility and corny jokes over good production. It's not particularly showy, so I guess it doesn't make the case for him as a "force to reckon with." But I don't think he's ever been the genius that others make him out to be, so maybe this recommendation should be totally disregarded

intheblanks, Tuesday, 16 February 2016 04:31 (ten years ago)

His verse on clique is pretty fun.

Agent Zero (Treeship), Tuesday, 16 February 2016 04:34 (ten years ago)

i change my answer to "slow jamz".

lute bro (brimstead), Tuesday, 16 February 2016 05:08 (ten years ago)

cant tell me nothing sparse lean no fat machine

peanutbuttereverysingleday, Tuesday, 16 February 2016 05:53 (ten years ago)

does it end by saying 'woah good sonic fade'?

peanutbuttereverysingleday, Tuesday, 16 February 2016 05:59 (ten years ago)

Can't Tell Me Nothing is correct

simmel, Tuesday, 16 February 2016 06:04 (ten years ago)

"runaway" is like the opposite of the answer

― HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Monday, February 15, 2016 10:44 PM (Yesterday)

lol seriously

"paranoid" is a great pick, but someone would have to be on board with the autotune thing. listen to his first 5 singles or so and if you don't like any of those idk

k3vin k., Tuesday, 16 February 2016 06:13 (ten years ago)

here are a couple of my favorite kanye production credits (no kanye rapping or singing!)

scarface ft jay-z - guess who's back

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jIS3KouPdgM

TI - let me tell you something

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xZ6BXcYKhUg

jay-z - girls, girls, girls (remix)

(can't find this on youtube :/ )

I thought the Flashing Lights intro was a sample, good job Kanye doing that string intro. Point Point does a good cover (remix?) of it which overextends it:

14 (!) years on this is still kanye's best and one of his weirdest beats imp

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aJD0CsYbGsY

ideal ratio of kanye to trina and ludacris on the mix too

cher guevara (lex pretend), Tuesday, 16 February 2016 09:07 (ten years ago)

*mic

cher guevara (lex pretend), Tuesday, 16 February 2016 09:07 (ten years ago)

i relistened to the college dropout and late registration yesterday though and they're both still really good!

cher guevara (lex pretend), Tuesday, 16 February 2016 09:08 (ten years ago)

"flashing lights" was the first kanye tune that really pulled me in

first 4 tracks off yeezus are pretty astonishing, if you can't see something powerful in that suite then no big deal but i wouldn't bother trying any more

marcos, Tuesday, 16 February 2016 14:52 (ten years ago)

"flashing lights" was the first kanye tune that really pulled me in

wait had you not heard the first two albums or actively disliked them?

cher guevara (lex pretend), Tuesday, 16 February 2016 15:23 (ten years ago)

i think graduation is a decent album and "flashing lights" def one of its highlights but it was the first time i'd actually felt disappointed with kanye

cher guevara (lex pretend), Tuesday, 16 February 2016 15:24 (ten years ago)

hadn't heard them, remarkably

marcos, Tuesday, 16 February 2016 15:24 (ten years ago)

xp

marcos, Tuesday, 16 February 2016 15:24 (ten years ago)

Graduation remains my favorite: shit's tight, a grand summa of that era. I still get a thrill when I hear "Stronger."

The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 16 February 2016 15:25 (ten years ago)

here are a couple of my favorite kanye production credits (no kanye rapping or singing!)

scarface ft jay-z - guess who's back

lol that's kanye on the hook saying "back to the block with the fo' cause this street shit is all i know"

some dude, Tuesday, 16 February 2016 15:53 (ten years ago)

First half of Yeezus + "Bound 2"

flappy bird, Tuesday, 16 February 2016 17:18 (ten years ago)

Like marcos said, if you can't find something in the first half of Yeezus, idk if anything else will do it.
