Stacey Pullen: new Fabric mix

This came out (in the US) today. I'm a big fan of his. From first listen, it sounds more conventionally house/tech-house than I expected. Good tracks, but I expected something a bit weirder, perhaps more minimal. This reminds me a bit of the Hipp-e and Halo or Terry Francis fabric mixes. Anyone else?

Know what you mean, it is a smooth housey mix, but very enjoyable. I still like his DJ-Kicks better (but that's one of my favorite mix-cds ever) and even that doesn't approach the real thing, esp when he's in one of his wild scratchy moods.

when i saw jeff mills he was surprisingly commercial.

he played tomas v filterheadz "sunshine" (to a huge crowd response), he played octave one "blackwater", he played funk d'void "diabla", he played a gang of samuel sessions / tony thomas / mr g / angel alanis type tracks.

ok, it's not exactly EBTG + boy george but i was expecting a purposemaker oriented set.

i wanted to bring this up but couldn't figure out where. maybe this is the place??

personally i'm shocked by the tracklisting, i also wonder because i'm finding myself more and more open to this sort of tech-house (also check out the technasia mix - where's the abstract asian tech tracks? instead we get lots of progressive house). there's something undifferentiated about it that i like - it seems like it's gone full circle into this zone where there aren't really big names, something comforting about the consistency of all these interchangable tracks.

i have to sort my thoughts out a bit more on this topic

I do too; I was going to talk about the way that some key techno people are playing more...English club music. Don't get me wrong, it's not actually obvious and hands-in-the-air, but it seems that the distance between slam, richie hawtin, stacey pullen, hipp-e and halo, peace division etc isn't as big as it once was.

mmm, or that Exhibitionist topic? Surely he did play The Bells? I mean that would be cause for alarm! ;)

yes of course. he played most of the purposemaker tracks that i know and tons of his other classic stuff, lots of it twice ... one run of english club music (i like that term!) came out of "stringent", even.

he also played lots of better-known detroit, which was a surprise. best part: dropping in just ten seconds of "the climax" about 2/3 of the way through his set, just to let you know what's up.
