Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 15:49 (twenty-two years ago)

you should really come to montreal sometime!

s1ocki (slutsky), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 15:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Costa Mesa show and FAP. Oh it's true. (Just not on this tour.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 16:24 (twenty-two years ago)

why always Baltimore and never DC?

mookieproof (mookieproof), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 17:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Because he fears that if he appears there that there will be a spontaneous uprising in his name, leading to him taking over the government by accident and making either "Aces High" or "Gin 'n' Juice" the new national anthem. Not that this is a bad thing, but the time is not yet right.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 17:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Damn. Want to come to the London show but a friend is playing a gig at Bush Hall that night...
If there's a pre-gig FAP I'll come by, though.

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 17:44 (twenty-two years ago)

john - any chance for some germany or (even better) austria dates later this year?

sal paradise, Wednesday, 24 March 2004 18:46 (twenty-two years ago)

just out of curiosity, what's up with the asterik in the band's name?... are they scientologists or something?

hummanah, Wednesday, 24 March 2004 20:11 (twenty-two years ago)

The asterisk is in honor of Sammy Sosa, for putting up all those 60 home run seasons while on the juice.

Baked Bean Teeth (Baked Bean Teeth), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 20:12 (twenty-two years ago)

or the cork!

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 20:13 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't think jo#n liked knoxville when he played two nights in a row here a couple yrs. back...he's never been back! Was it something I said?

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 20:14 (twenty-two years ago)

29 MARCH 2004 MAINS D'OEUVRES, ST OUEN-PARIS, FR

amateur!st (amateurist), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 20:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 21:07 (twenty-two years ago)

dammit Siegbran and here I had a whole set of '91-era BM & chilly ambient stuff worked up just for you :)

Mountain Goats in closet Current 93 fans shockah

Siegbran (eofor), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 23:24 (twenty-two years ago)

JD, what about Vancouver? If you can make it to Seattle, and I see you have in the past, it's only a couple hours north and a border crossing, which you probably know. So why not?

David A. (Davant), Thursday, 25 March 2004 02:32 (twenty-two years ago)

anyone who has a Baltimore stop on their tour and not D.C. deserves enormous props, regardless of their reasons for doing so.

Al (sitcom), Thursday, 25 March 2004 03:19 (twenty-two years ago)

new orleans wants that hot azz too. dont forget about us.

Felonious Drunk (Felcher), Thursday, 25 March 2004 17:34 (twenty-two years ago)

:( I hope I'm able to catch you in glasgow but I think ATP might still be going on at that time.

cozen (Cozen), Thursday, 25 March 2004 19:54 (twenty-two years ago)

John mentioned to me once that the paperwork required to get to Canada is a real piss-cutter, and so he doesn't make it up here that often. But I would love for him to come to Toronto, too!

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Thursday, 25 March 2004 19:59 (twenty-two years ago)

new orleans wants that hot azz too. dont forget about us.

This is very true. New Orleans is awful for good shows--I mean, the whole town is worked up about an all-ages Xiu Xiu show! Kill me. Also John you need to catch the new, faster incarnation of Eyehategod, Outlaw Order--their first 7" is out on Southern Lord but live they are something else.

adam (adam), Thursday, 25 March 2004 20:13 (twenty-two years ago)

*bites tongue about being able to go see Hot 8 anytime you want*

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 25 March 2004 20:17 (twenty-two years ago)

that xiu xiu show is all ages? damn, i hope its not full of mallgoths.

Felonious Drunk (Felcher), Thursday, 25 March 2004 21:17 (twenty-two years ago)

It's at the Banks St Warehouse, which I believe is run by straightedge hardcore losers--so it will be full of them. It's not worth it.

Jordan--brass bands are fun and all but after a couple of years the idea of going to the Maple Leaf to see Rebirth again seems not so appealing.

adam (adam), Friday, 26 March 2004 02:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Not to derail this thread from the very important topic of the M-Goats tour and its awesomeness (assumed awesomeness b/c JD doesn't have the balls to come down south--yeah, that's a challenge--bring it).

adam (adam), Friday, 26 March 2004 04:57 (twenty-two years ago)

eh whatever nevermind do do do do do do do do

amateur!st (amateurist), Friday, 26 March 2004 14:02 (twenty-two years ago)

So who else is going to the ICA tonight? And is it worth getting there early to check out Vinny Miller?

Mog, Wednesday, 31 March 2004 09:51 (twenty-two years ago)

I am. But I don't know anything about any Vinnies. Anyone else?

Tim (Tim), Wednesday, 31 March 2004 09:53 (twenty-two years ago)

will be going.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Wednesday, 31 March 2004 10:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Saw Vinny at a 4AD showcase a few months back. Wasn't terribly inspiring, I have to admit.

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Wednesday, 31 March 2004 10:24 (twenty-two years ago)

probably going, i think. anyone have a clue what time they're likely to be on? i'd quite like to go home and have dinner first...

toby (tsg20), Wednesday, 31 March 2004 11:43 (twenty-two years ago)

I've been told it's 8.15 for Vinny Miller and 9.45 for the Goats, though that does seem rather a long time between sets...

Mog, Wednesday, 31 March 2004 12:48 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll see you chaps down at the ICA bar later, then.

Tim (Tim), Wednesday, 31 March 2004 13:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, I'll be there as well.

cis (cis), Wednesday, 31 March 2004 14:02 (twenty-two years ago)

I was in Paris last week and was going to go to the Cat Power show which TMG played but it was 30 euros! And the exchange rate is not in my favor. Not that you're not worth it, John, but I had flashbacks of repeatedly calling Ticketmaster for Poison tickets.

scott m (mcd), Wednesday, 31 March 2004 14:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Go see Vinny. Whaddaya got to lose? (Besides, rumour has it that the album is grebt!)

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Wednesday, 31 March 2004 15:41 (twenty-two years ago)

All being well I'll be at the Stockton gig, representing the Ilxor northeast massive.

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Wednesday, 31 March 2004 17:35 (twenty-two years ago)

30 MARCH 2004 M.O.D, HASSELT, BE
I noticed you'd be playing at the other end of Belgium. If only I lived near Hasselt. Actually no, I am happier being as far away from Hasselt as possible. Still wished I had been at the show. Next time play BRUGES!

jesus nathalie (nathalie), Wednesday, 31 March 2004 17:38 (twenty-two years ago)

that was really fucking fantastic. one of the most life-affirming gigs i've ever been to.

toby (tsg20), Wednesday, 31 March 2004 21:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Just the best thing evah!!!

I think better than when I saw 'em last year, but I'm still recovering from last night and nice to meet the man at the end of it.

'see you next year'.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Thursday, 1 April 2004 07:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah! How good was that gig?

OK which one of you guys was doing all the whooping?

Mog, Thursday, 1 April 2004 08:16 (twenty-one years ago)

That was Julio.

Yes, the show was tremendous, and it was a pleasure to meet JD afterwards, albeit briefly.

Tim (Tim), Thursday, 1 April 2004 08:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Missed it

Dadaismus (Dada), Thursday, 1 April 2004 08:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Roll on Sunday!

Ally C (Ally C), Thursday, 1 April 2004 11:30 (twenty-one years ago)

don't try it hopkins.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Thursday, 1 April 2004 11:41 (twenty-one years ago)

i've been unable to listen to anything except the mountain goats today.

toby (tsg20), Thursday, 1 April 2004 13:08 (twenty-one years ago)

They were utterly lovely - just wish it had been longer!

cis (cis), Thursday, 1 April 2004 13:19 (twenty-one years ago)

The show was astounding - if I didn't have plans for tonight I think I'd jump on a train to Brighton.

Also very refreshing to see a band (and crowd) clearly enjoy themselves so much at the ICA.

clive (Clive), Thursday, 1 April 2004 14:14 (twenty-one years ago)

(cries)

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 1 April 2004 15:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Are they selling tickets for Nice and Sleazy or can i just turn up at the door?

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 1 April 2004 16:26 (twenty-one years ago)

clive otm, i was thinking about brighton just now.

john's enthusiasm was fantastic, i've never seen someone enjoying themselves so much (i hope you were, anyway, john). also for once the sound in the ica was ok! amazing!

toby (tsg20), Thursday, 1 April 2004 16:34 (twenty-one years ago)

cook and madchen and cathy and I saw ast night's show.

I am not as big a fan, as cook is (in so many ways), but I did enjoy it good. madchen bought a record, too.

we spoke to john, briefly, afterwards. he was v. friendly and polite--I wish he'd heard my part in the negotiation joke: I shouted "one" but nowhere near loud enough.

good luck, w/ the rest, john!

RJG (RJG), Monday, 5 April 2004 09:17 (twenty-one years ago)

assed night's show.

RJG (RJG), Monday, 5 April 2004 09:17 (twenty-one years ago)

(J0hn deserves every ounce of love you give him, but this is just a friendly reminder that his cohort, peter, also deserves some love as well... and i'm not saying this because peter is a good friend of mine or anything...)

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 5 April 2004 10:17 (twenty-one years ago)

As a result of his heavy touring schedule, John said he would probably 'kill everyone in the building', but spare us ILXors. What a lovely chap.

Obviously evil doctor is influencing the short sets though. Pity.

Ally C (Ally C), Monday, 5 April 2004 11:43 (twenty-one years ago)

I have really gotta stop threatening to kill everybody in the building

Ally it's not the doctor's fault so much as the routing! When I have to play so many shows in a row, fatigue sets in, and if I don't pace myself I'll wreck my voice and have to turn in half-assed shows for other crowds! Gosh Glasgow was lots of fun though. Thanks everybody for coming hurrah!

J0hn Darn1elle (J0hn Darn1elle), Monday, 5 April 2004 13:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Half-assed shows? Yeah, but it's only NOTTINGHAM. Thanks for having fun, John!

Ally C (Ally C), Monday, 5 April 2004 20:50 (twenty-one years ago)

i'd like to officially register my disappointment that my current state of unemployment prevented me going to this in Glasgow. Come back when I have a job!

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 5 April 2004 23:53 (twenty-one years ago)

A damn, fine evening's entertainment, more than making up for missing the CL quarter finals. My sceptical mate is converted now.

Set the tape machine for the Peel Sessions folks.

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 08:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Saw Vinny at a 4AD showcase a few months back. Wasn't terribly inspiring, I have to admit.
-- Rob Bolton (i_like_my_vesp...), March 31st, 2004.

gotta love this place. this is where you get the backlash before the hype has even started lol

i agree Rob, if i saw me for the first time at some recent shows i wouldn't be kicking down the doors to my local record shop either - people only seem to like the gig if they've heard the record first

i'm getting better live (slowly) although it's not a straight line - ica + spitz were real shockers - unrehearsed, scrappy + a bit lame IMO - spitz blew the big one (sorry ma), thankyou ica crowd, you left me with the impression that i got away with it

tmg were[i]on fire[i]

for my next trick i plan to drop a bomb on specialist radio and watch the ripples (or catch a wave of apathy) 22/04/04 6 Music Gideon Coe live to air/interview John Kennedy xfm live to air/interview Water Rats show and BC Selector all in one day - check out new Pigpen

then i tour with John and Peter which will be a fucking blast

i will get better. promise.

v1nny miller, Tuesday, 13 April 2004 11:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Didn't make it to the ICA in time for your slot, Vinny, but I'm sure you were better than the main support band, whoever they were - totally fucking shit.

Mog, Tuesday, 13 April 2004 11:23 (twenty-one years ago)

three weeks pass...
I cannot come to the radio thingummy in louisville, very sad.
