The band "by coatal cafe" seem to be playing alot of toy instruments, definetely search them. I think E from the Eels used toy instruments in his early days.

I will be interested to hear the answers to this one. I love recording songs with toy instruments.

I remember there being a boston band called Pianosaurus that did this mid90's. Can't remember if I ever actually heard any though.

Pianosaurus - "Groovy Neighborhood", 1987

okay, i didn;t remember the date off the top of my head, i looked it up on allmusic, but I do have a copy of the record. It's cute but I don;t think it would be remarkable if they didn;t use toy instruments. Apparently the CD is still in print, Rounder records.

I have an album by John Cage that has (at least) one piece that uses a toy piano. He rocks the hell out of it.

Cage's piece for Toy Piano is nice. I can't think of another offhand.

Greg Oblivian's solo version of 'Bad Man' uses toy piano and it's awesome.

Stereototal manages to make their instruments sound like toys, but I don't know if they are or not.

Margaret Leng Tan (classical pianist, Cage expert) has recorded at least a full disc of modern compositions for toy piano. She spent a year or two touring on the strength of it. I saw her open for the Magnetic Fields. It was kind of beautiful.

Well informed source (went to school w/ Tan) informs me that she took up toy piano b/c she failed at classical -- i.e. she was good, but not going anywhere spectacular, thus acquired "gimick". Not that there's anything wrong with that.

The Marbles [Robert Schneider of the Apples in Stereo's solo thing] used lots of toys and it sounded great. Wait, it sounded like an Apples album, but that's a good thing. toy piano, fisher-price xylophone, toy drums, etc. fun album.
