didn't get round to getting Dear Catastrophe Waitress until two days ago. And everytime I put it on I hear Beulah. oh dear oh dear. should have made the gf buy it.

So who'd bruise slightly and quit first in a fight?

P.S if this post is utterly lame, feel free to humorously flame!

beulah? surely some mistake?

the surface noise (electricsound), Thursday, 25 March 2004 02:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Popular mechanics for lovers, I'll be your lampshade etc are what set me on this track. The coast is never clear. have lost when the heartstrings break, bah.

no?

I like one Beulah songs, but I like a lot of Belle & Sebastian songs. Some say too many.

I'd say B&S, if only because on I Hope Your Heartsrings Don't Break, Miles seems to have some fight in him. He even offers, in the last song, "I'll fight, if you want me to fight." Whatever happened between that album and Yoko, I have no clue.

beulah is one of the pop bands that most indie rockers love, i have no idea why because they're dreadful. see also summer hymns.

keith m (keithmcl), Thursday, 25 March 2004 02:59 (twenty-two years ago)

summer hymns first album is really quite gorgeous, and the other have their moments too!

(i think beulah would win in a fight only because they're american)

stuart m is handy with his fists apparently

Do you make your girlfriend buy CDs you don't expect to like?

Sym (shmuel), Thursday, 25 March 2004 04:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, Stuart M used to be a boxer, plus Sarah Martin looks like she could probably beat all of G-Unit up, so B&S would take the dukes, easily.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Thursday, 25 March 2004 09:57 (twenty-two years ago)

what is fact, these days?

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 25 March 2004 10:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Stuart M gave up amateur boxing becuase he kept getting beaten, though.

"I'll fight, if you want me to fight."
That song , If We Can Land A Man On The Moon, Surely I Can Win Your Heart, is about winning over music journalists...
"speed it up or slow it down, if you want we'll change our sound, we'll play yeah we'll play all that you want, all we want from you is a word or two..." and there are other lyrics in that song that reveal Beulah to be simpering milksops who sacrifice integrity for a life of attrition and drudgery to get good reviews.
But it's a fantastic song.
I think Beulah are far too busy beating each other up than to worry about kicking the shit out of B+S. Which I'm certain they could manage.

B&S are already bleeding internally from lesions and hemmorages.

AaronK (AaronK), Thursday, 25 March 2004 13:56 (twenty-two years ago)

I can never decide if I like Beulah or not, I mean I've got all their albums, but can actually only recall 4 or 5 of their songs (mostly from when your heart strings break). They aren't very twee anymore. I like the song where they swear on Yoko.

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 25 March 2004 18:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Beulah are playing in London at Madame Jo-Jo's next Wednesday, in case people didn't know.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Thursday, 25 March 2004 19:03 (twenty-two years ago)

i only have yoko. not too twee. i wish they were more twee. i should listen to early stuff then.

too twee. poo-tee-weet.

incidently, would you consider it un-twee to swear?

AaronK (AaronK), Thursday, 25 March 2004 19:07 (twenty-two years ago)

B&S. The Beulah boys have a little more meat on their bones (and thicker skin). So Beulah hasn't broken up, then?

Kate Silver (Kate Silver), Thursday, 25 March 2004 19:11 (twenty-two years ago)

two years pass...
I really like that song "If We Can Land a Man on the Moon". Can't help it, don't wanna.
