;-(

The "most musically advanced Hip-Hop album ever" stuff is definitely hyperbole and all that, but man! ...I'd still reeeeally want to hear Dre trying for something like this and failing!

original bgm, Thursday, 25 March 2004 15:29 (twenty-two years ago)

It was called "Smile, motherfukker!"

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 25 March 2004 15:40 (twenty-two years ago)

>>>Two of the more popular rumors were that the album would be a fusion of hip hop & opera and that Academy Award winning actor (and friend of Dre) Denzel Washington would serve as the album's "narrator".

these two sentences make me feel that we have dodged a bullet.

bill stevens (bscrubbins), Thursday, 25 March 2004 19:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I hate it when people beat me to the fucking joke. Would saying "They should release "Smiley smile motherfucker!" be too obvious? ...yeah, it would.

What's the best hip-hopera to date?

Mark (MarkR), Thursday, 25 March 2004 19:52 (twenty-two years ago)

prince paul - a prince among thieves. it's about as close in tragicomic spirit to actual opera as one is gonna get. sadly, though, not good for kids, what with the swearing and the killing and the gloomy view of human nature and the violence and the kool keith and the wooooah momma. plus it's only good for listening to on long drives because the individual songs don't really work, and the de la thing in the middle makes no sense in context but isn't good enuf to be a palate cleanser.

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 25 March 2004 20:40 (twenty-two years ago)

No, no. You are so behind the times. "Abandon" is the new street slang meaning "drop."

Like 6 months ago you would have been all "my new album drops November 9th," but you wouldn't be caught dead saying so this year. Now you have to be like "my new album is being abandoned April 12th."

It's a way to confuse old people or whatever.

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 26 March 2004 09:28 (twenty-two years ago)

And surely he could rhyme "columnated" with "hated" somehow.

mike a, Friday, 26 March 2004 14:15 (twenty-two years ago)

most advanced hip hop album ever? nevre heard anything bout that. and dre is hardly the man for the job. as someone said upthjread, tho, it would probably be a rush to hea him fail the task. not as in schadenfreude, but as in interesting.

a tracklist that was supposedly for detox leaked. i think that's it.

If it was going to be anything like the mediocre Chronic 2001, then good.

But part of me would have liked to have heard it first...maybe he still has something left. His production on Chronic 2001 was occasionally good, but mostly bleh.

its going to suck isnt it? its like the rap chinese democracy. itll be over laboured, sterile, gutless. except maybe one or two tracks. dres perfectionism will be his downfall for detox. the fact he just isnt what he used to be either as a producer isnt gonna help.

titchyschneiderMk2, Thursday, 2 August 2007 11:01 (eighteen years ago)

It is also said that he will have production on Lil Wayne's new album Tha Carter III."

that lil wayne beat is well made and everything but so boring. when is he gonna change up those fucking macabre synth chords hes been using for a decade now? the young buck beat he did was good but again, it just feels overproduced.

titchyschneiderMk2, Thursday, 2 August 2007 11:20 (eighteen years ago)

Dre didn't produce that Wayne beat, Cipha Sounds did.

The Brainwasher, Thursday, 2 August 2007 11:39 (eighteen years ago)

Rapper Dr. Dre's son found dead

Wednesday, August 27 2008, 09:16 BST

By Simon Reynolds, Entertainment Reporter
Rapper Dr. Dre's son found dead

The son of hip-hop star Dr. Dre has been found dead at his home in Woodland Hills, California, reports Reuters.

Andre Young Jr. was discovered "unresponsive in bed" by his mother on Saturday morning following a night out with friends. Paramedics pronounced the 20-year-old dead at the scene.

A statement from Dr. Dre's spokesman said: "Dr. Dre is mourning the loss of his son Andre Young Jr. Please respect his family's grief and privacy at this time."

The cause of death cannot be determined until results from toxicology tests are returned, which could take more than six weeks.

A Grammy-winning producer and artist, Dr. Dre will release his third album Detox this year. He has also produced records for Eminem, Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent and Jay-Z.

think we were equating this never-to-be album with other long awaited legendary albums. Though a new MBV record would be more appropriate here than a remaster.
