i'm glad you're enjoying it and all, but i honestly thought this was a shocking end to a run of good form by fabric. really didn't enjoy it at all and wasa big letdown after the michael mayer and bugz in the attic mixes. if you don't have thes e i think yous hould get them, you'll probably like them even more

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Friday, 26 March 2004 16:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Can't be any worse than the Craig Richard's mix which is best described as dull...

Angus Macdonald (Gutta_Funk), Sunday, 28 March 2004 16:48 (twenty-two years ago)

what style is the stacey pullen one? I especially enjoyed the Radioactive Man and John Peel ones. Swayzak was ok too.

dog latin (dog latin), Sunday, 28 March 2004 19:17 (twenty-two years ago)

i really think the bugz and mayer fabric mixes were amazing one-offs for them. the others i've heard have been mediocre at best.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Sunday, 28 March 2004 19:41 (twenty-two years ago)

what about the jacques lu cont? i'd put that nearly up there with the mayer and bugz ones...

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Sunday, 28 March 2004 19:44 (twenty-two years ago)

eh...i dunno. sometimes i really wonder how much i like that french house/electro/glam/kitsch axis.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Sunday, 28 March 2004 19:45 (twenty-two years ago)

(somewhere a vein just popped in ronan's head)

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Sunday, 28 March 2004 19:45 (twenty-two years ago)

haha! The Lu Cont mix is ace but sometimes I listen to it and think it's very indie.

When I've seen him play he's great too though. I prefer Waves II in a way, but I've listened to the Lu Cont mix far more. Waves II is a bolder mix really, for me.

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 28 March 2004 20:37 (twenty-two years ago)

waves II is amazing, but i find it hard to make it through more than 30 minutes of it at a time.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Sunday, 28 March 2004 20:49 (twenty-two years ago)

there's something really harsh, almost metallic about the synths.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Sunday, 28 March 2004 20:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes it is like a particularly rich cake. I think there's something to be said for the purity of it, it's so rare in house mixes.

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 28 March 2004 20:50 (twenty-two years ago)

there IS something to be said about bringing back the uniformity-in-style mixes. it's something you only get in label-centric comps these days.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Sunday, 28 March 2004 20:53 (twenty-two years ago)

amen.

the Pullen is rub.

"there IS something to be said about bringing back the uniformity-in-style mixes. it's something you only get in label-centric comps these days."

YES! I can't believe people still act as if most DJs only play a specific subset of a certain style - I've found such a thing to actually be quite rare these days.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Monday, 29 March 2004 03:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Is Waves I any cop? I've been considering forking out for it for ages...

The JlC Fabric mix is ace and would be perfect if it ended 2/3s of the way in, or just before he starts playing a load of indie records in order to use up the rest of the space on the CD.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 29 March 2004 12:29 (twenty-two years ago)

I really like I Wanna Rock by Junior Sanchez though! And the way he mixes it and Devo is fairly ace.

When the Hook bassline style synths come in on I Wanna Rock it's a bit of a moment for me I have to say. I loved his Riot Society track "Understand Me" too, that was Sanchez and Laidback Luke.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 29 March 2004 12:54 (twenty-two years ago)

DJ Spinbad's forthcoming one is wicked. classic hip hop bangers from all eras.

Talvin Singh's is pretty good too, apart from the Phuturistix to Oris Jay "mix" in the middle and the hippyish moments at the end...

all about the Bugz mix. landmark business.

martin (martin), Monday, 29 March 2004 15:18 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah i like that bugz mix more every time i play it. and i liked it quite a bit to start.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Monday, 29 March 2004 15:26 (twenty-two years ago)

it was just fun and i like the way they make forward-style tunes come alive in a way that i've not found menta et al do ina concentrated lump for a good while - the swayzak mix was excellent, too and i'm looking fwd to the spinbad album for iPod material... there have been others i liked and whoever was dissing craig richards' fabric mix may have a point but they obviously haven't heard his latest two-cd tyrant series mixes - the second of which is fucking corking, with loads of great german microbusiness...

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Monday, 29 March 2004 15:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Argh I got that for review and only got the disc which has 'eclectic' electro idm breaks bizniz. However it was still worth it for Dettinger's "Tottentanz" which I will play on loop at my funeral.
