Is this album being released in remastered form anytime soon?
I don't want to have to buy the box set.

Davidw, Sunday, 28 March 2004 00:50 (twenty-two years ago)

What's wrong with the version you have now?

Mark (MarkR), Sunday, 28 March 2004 12:30 (twenty-two years ago)

It rules!

Mr Mime (Andrew Thames), Sunday, 28 March 2004 12:40 (twenty-two years ago)

and if you like the standard issue Jack Johnson, the complete sessions box is fascinating. Chockful of random beauty and killer guitar skronk. Really, it's not just another overstuffed ripoff.

lovebug starski, Sunday, 28 March 2004 12:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Thanks guys. Lovebug - i'm tryng to limit the amount of cds that i own, so i don't think the box set is for me. It seems as though the album has been bypassed in the reissuing programme, so I wondered if anyone knew why that was, or if it will be rectified soon.
A 2 cd set like with Bitches Brew would be great.

Davidw, Sunday, 28 March 2004 13:36 (twenty-two years ago)

don't think it's ever been out of print. there was a remastered edition around 92-93. Given the seemingly endless reissue/repackaging cycle, you'll probably get that 2 cd set eventually. I've been streaming the complete box on rhapsody, I couldn't afford the box either space or money-wise.

lovebug starski, Sunday, 28 March 2004 14:40 (twenty-two years ago)

They seem to always do a single-disc remastered version of the album after the box has been out for a bit. Or two discs, in the case of BB, of course . . .

Rickey Wright (Rrrickey), Monday, 29 March 2004 07:25 (twenty-two years ago)

As far as I know, Columbia/Legacy's remastered "ATTJJ" is still available. One of my friends got the box and I burned it--out of 6 hours of music, there are maybe 20 minutes that aren't great. Absolutely the best thing Miles Davis in the '70s, even greater than "Agartha" or the best of "Get Up With It."

The single-disc remasters of the 60s quintet albums that they sell for $9.99 are one of the treasures of the modern age.

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 29 March 2004 16:47 (twenty-two years ago)

A 2 cd set like with Bitches Brew would be great

I couldn't agree more! Life/money's too short to keep dropping hundreds on bloated boxes that I can't find the time to fully absorb.

So once again -- what's wrong with the standard issue Jack Johnson CD?

One of the benefits of jazz being dead is that you can collect all the corpses for next to nothing.

OK, so I just recently listened to this album for the first time -- my jazz education is a slow one, and especially slow on this middle-period Miles Davis material. But man, oh man, I just don't even have words to describe how this record made me feel. This blew my mind even more than "On The Corner" did. There are so many amazing things going on in "Yesternow" I feel like I could listen to it a hundred times in a row and not get it all.

Id rather dig ditches than pull another dudes string (Pancakes Hackman), Tuesday, 1 September 2009 18:10 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah. To me, it had as much of a "rock" feel as a "jazz" feel. Maybe I'm way off-base.

Daniel, Esq., Tuesday, 1 September 2009 18:15 (sixteen years ago)

very "rock" album. basslines are maybe the first electric miles stuff that really point in the direction of rock rather than jazz.

strongohulkingtonsghost, Tuesday, 1 September 2009 18:20 (sixteen years ago)

I agree Daniel, Esq., it always strikes me as very "rock" album somehow.

krakow, Tuesday, 1 September 2009 18:21 (sixteen years ago)

it's sick stuff. definite classic. your certainly not the first, or last , person to categorize it as a rock album

jaxon, Tuesday, 20 October 2009 04:44 (sixteen years ago)

this dude in my dorm freshman year used to play shit like young jeezy & young buck at literally floor shaking levels during the day, so i guess a lot of people complained about it & one day he played some jack johnson loud as hell so us "white people would enjoy his music"

he was cool

burrhurt (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 20 October 2009 04:51 (sixteen years ago)

i don't think this thread means what you think it means

A Tribute to Jack Johnson > pardoning the boxer Jack Johnson >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>pussy pop star Jack Johnson

Bill Magill, Tuesday, 20 October 2009 13:23 (sixteen years ago)

I am saddened to think of how many more albums this phony Jack Johnson has sold over the majestic masterpiece "Tribute to Jack Johnson". I bet it's obscene

Bill Magill, Tuesday, 20 October 2009 13:25 (sixteen years ago)

Been having some good times with the box set lately.

Trip Maker, Tuesday, 20 October 2009 15:22 (sixteen years ago)

one year passes...

tonight i am seeing jack dejohnette + some crew of young jazz jizzers soundtracking a showing of 'a tribute to jack johnson'.

joe smooth's 'promised blend' instant coffee (haitch), Tuesday, 1 March 2011 21:30 (fifteen years ago)

That's very cool.

Thraft of Cleveland (Bill Magill), Tuesday, 1 March 2011 21:39 (fifteen years ago)

that sounds rad. is that movie available on DVD?

tylerw, Tuesday, 1 March 2011 21:39 (fifteen years ago)

jack dejohnette pwns

hand solo (diamonddave85), Tuesday, 1 March 2011 22:48 (fifteen years ago)

this was great. if they're touring it near you and you have affection for this album, you really should see it!

(the 'band of young jazz jizzers' wasn't actually that young, they played pretty hard though.)

joe smooth's 'promised blend' instant coffee (haitch), Wednesday, 2 March 2011 14:33 (fifteen years ago)

tyler i did notice an ESPN logo at the start of the film - not sure if it's gettable otherwise.

joe smooth's 'promised blend' instant coffee (haitch), Wednesday, 2 March 2011 14:34 (fifteen years ago)

yeah seems as though maybe it shows on ESPN classic from time to time? can't find any clips online, which is strange, though the other jack johnson mucks google searches up. damn that guy!
the sonny sharrock stuff on the sessions box set is crazy.

tylerw, Wednesday, 2 March 2011 15:27 (fifteen years ago)

Yes, I need to revisit the box again soon.

Trip Maker, Wednesday, 2 March 2011 15:32 (fifteen years ago)

yeah i need to make a one-disc "best of" out of the box. there's so much good stuff on it, but some of it can be a little exhausting.

tylerw, Wednesday, 2 March 2011 15:42 (fifteen years ago)

I made a two disc version (one isn't quite enough for these long jams) that I sent to a friend about a month after it came out.
Wish I still had that distillation. It would be fun to make another one.

Trip Maker, Wednesday, 2 March 2011 15:59 (fifteen years ago)

I'll just bring the box with me to work one day and have a marathon session with it.
I will doing a fair amount of data entry for the rest of the week, it seems.
I like having a job that allows me to listen to music the entire day.

Trip Maker, Wednesday, 2 March 2011 16:00 (fifteen years ago)

I saw the movie tonight!

every time i listen to "yesternow" i giggle when that section of "shhh/peaceful" shows up

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Friday, 5 June 2020 00:46 (five years ago)

It is a bit random, isn't it? But the Jack Johnson speech is all time great.

Mario Meatwagon (Moodles), Friday, 5 June 2020 02:32 (five years ago)

oh i love it, it kinda adds to the continual tapestry quality of all the miles fusion studio album

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Friday, 5 June 2020 02:34 (five years ago)

Hearing the uncut version of shhh/peaceful really blew my mind. Absolutely underscores what an insane and masterful editing job Teo did to whittle it down to its utter core.
