I consider myself a big fan of US Maple - do I need to buy Sang Phat Editor?

It's the only one I don't have. Don't know exactly how or why I missed it, but I did. As essential as the other three?

yes

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Sunday, 28 March 2004 22:28 (twenty-two years ago)

eeek i forgot all about Acre Thrills, which I don't 'own' unless you consider having an unlabeled cdr downloaded from kaazaa 'owning' - guess i don't consider that one very 'classic'

Acre Thrills is better than Sang Phat Editor.

hstencil, Sunday, 28 March 2004 22:49 (twenty-two years ago)

get it if you find it used. skin graft CDs are expensive.

Ian Johnson (orion), Sunday, 28 March 2004 23:44 (twenty-two years ago)

"Acre Thrills is better than Sang Phat Editor"

exactly wrong, i say

duke phat, Monday, 29 March 2004 01:36 (twenty-two years ago)

good for you.

hstencil, Monday, 29 March 2004 02:44 (twenty-two years ago)

I like Acre Thrills better too. Also the jacket of the Acre Thrills LP is really neat (neater than Sang Phat).

dlp9001, Monday, 29 March 2004 03:15 (twenty-two years ago)

i'd rather listen to "acre" than most any other guitar-based bands' records, don't get me wrong. but to front on sang phat editor is to front on yourself. it's a majestic third record as second record, too precocious for many? i don't know... but get it. imagine if new picnic time was the second pere ubu, if they'd consecutively switched it up with their own dub housing. that's what u.s. maple did

duke picnic, Monday, 29 March 2004 04:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I didn't "front" on it, I just said Acre Thrills is better. It's just an opinion. I still own and enjoy Sang Phat Editor, just not as much as some of their other releases.

It is a good album but if you do buy it be aware that a lot of the copies out there seem to have black gunk on the back. I think it was some pressing fault or something. It is easily cleaned with a good cleaning fluid though. I thought my copy was ruined when I got it!

Mark Harris, Monday, 29 March 2004 09:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I have a copy of this I've been trying to get rid of for years - no "buy counter" will take it, due to the weirdness on the back of the disc (see above)! Roger, I'll gladly mail it to you.

morris pavilion (samjeff), Monday, 29 March 2004 16:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes you should, prob. the most essential Maple album IMO...track down the vinyl if you can, the cover art is amazing. I have it framed in my music room (god I am a nerd).

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Monday, 29 March 2004 16:50 (twenty-two years ago)

i still have the sticker that came with the cd version on my computer

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Monday, 29 March 2004 16:52 (twenty-two years ago)

The only US Maple album you don't need is Purple on Time.

Nick Mirov (nick), Monday, 29 March 2004 18:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Purple on TIme is better than Acre Thrills

duke trace, Monday, 29 March 2004 19:22 (twenty-two years ago)

I actually like Acre Thrills alot....I thought it did a great job of combining the sang phat/talker era stuff with a little more coherent structure, without going totally back to the Long Hair in Three Stages stuff....Ma Digital is one of my fav maple tracks ever.

I still haven't heard purple on time.

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Monday, 29 March 2004 19:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Morris - that'd be great! Let me send you something in return though. My reputation for speedy mailing is good here on ILM (ask Julio, Scott Seward, Ned, and the four or five folks who bought boxes of 7"s from me).

Can't email at the moment (aol won't open) but email mm and lemme know what you'd like. Mixtape? Polyamory item(s)?

roger adultery (roger adultery), Monday, 29 March 2004 21:35 (twenty-two years ago)

OK, but let me check at home tonight and make sure I didn't somehow get rid of it after all...

morris pavilion (samjeff), Monday, 29 March 2004 21:44 (twenty-two years ago)
