live at the witch trials

I just bought the Turning Point (?) vinyl reissue of Live At The Witch Trials by the Fall. I would like the guitar to be louder and the drums to be less loud. Any suggestions?

like is the CD reissue with the bonus tracks mixed differently? Dragnet seems rawer to me, guitar/recording-wise.

Sorry, that's how Live at the Witch Trials was produced--drags it down a bit. Dragnet and esp. Grotesque serve the band much better from that standpoint.

I have the same vinyl repress and I hear what you're saying. Turn the bass down a bit and boost the mid-range. And thank your lucky stars it's not the Cog Sinster cd print ... skips n dropouts AHOY.

I can't imagine that anyone bothered to actually do a whole new mix on that. Haven't heard that new pressing, but I would really doubt that a remix actually happened.

but a lot can happening in the mastering phase...

I heard the new 2-CD edition sounds flawless. No longer mastered from crappy vinyl copies, AND you get a ton of spiffy bonus tracks.

Yep that new 2-disc sets a keeper. Sound is really good.Bonus stuff is Early Singles, Dresdon Dolls Boot,Peel Sessions,Short Circuit - Live At The Electric Circus Tracks, Live Liverpool 78. You wouldn't regret buying it (again).

Who put out this new 2CD edition? (And is the sound significantly better than Live+ thing that just came out a year and a half ago and which was a vast improvement other the awful not + Live from four years previous.)

there are too damn many fall reissues.

morris pavilion (samjeff), Wednesday, 31 March 2004 23:17 (twenty-two years ago)

can anyone speak to the quality of those "+" reissues? is it worth replacing the old ones? i know in the case of "witch trials," it must be, since the old, from-vinyl cd is pretty crappy sounding... but is it worth it, in terms of sound quality alone, to trade up to "hex enduction +" or "dragnet +"?

The original sounds great to these ears.

The drums were always too loud and the guitar was always too quiet on this album but the songs are so great it hardly matters

... plus Karl Burns overplays like hell

The original sounds grebt to me too - vinyl, of course.

I did get the latest Dragnet+, as my old vinyl copy is pretty worn out. Seems mid-fi mow, instead of the lo-fi of the orig. You seem to be able to hear a bit more of what's going on with the guitars and the bass is pretty punchy. Worth getting.

Yes, KB throws in too many rolls on LATWT.

He and Colm O'Ciosoig (sp?) are like the only drummers who do anything like ENOUGH rolls, man

"Hex Enduction Hour" needs to be re-issued on double vinyl.
