Its artist roster will also be reduced by about 20%, mostly "niche and under-performing" acts, particularly in continental Europe.

Ayone find that particular phrase worring?

Who's for the chop then?

"The Chop" seems to relate to artists who don't get 'high enough' in the chart, rather than artist who don't chart at all...

With the latter, thought seems to be "we need to get then seen/noticed", with the former "We've tried our best and they only get to number 23".

Yet acts (such as, say, Divin3 c0medy) will sell consistently, therefor not lose money. But which A&R will take credit for steering them or breaking them in the first place? the A&R person responsible for getting them has probably moved on anyway.

A&R are always paranoid about losing their jobs, with justification. "Bring the hit acts in, or yer out." Use em up, wear em out goes much more for those guys than it does for artists/acts.

How do you get an A & R job? I'd like to be one (seriously) - I predicted the huge success of Jennifer Love Hewitt when she was still on "McKenna" and have done similar many times in the field of music.

Ha ha - you remind me of George Costanza having a career chat with Jerry.

"EMI will continue to be an agile and progressive music content company that fully embraces and profits from changes in technology and consumer trends.

Interesting that this same company is the one that introduced copy protection in Canada, which is much lower quality than an actual CD, and won't even play on all CD players. As a result, I know that I've bought a lot less EMI cds, even passing up some that I would have otherwise snapped up immediately.

I guess you'll have to just download copies off a napsterclone or something.

I predicted the huge success of Jennifer Love Hewitt

but where is she now?

I am serious, I need to talk to her.

Oh, yeah...? Well, *I* was __jerking off__ to Ms. Love Hewitt when she was still on 'Byrds Of Paradise' (1994, according to IMDB--'McKenna' was 1994-95, though I also watched it). Specifically the cheerleader try-outs scene.

You don't know who yer messin' with--I almost bought one of her albums. Almost.

My favorite part of this article is how the only bands they name in the article itself are Radiohead and Robbie Williams. Presumably they are about to get the chop?

Dave M. (rotten03), Thursday, 1 April 2004 06:06 (twenty-two years ago)

No they're gonna have to merge...and lose 30% of their members

winterland, Thursday, 1 April 2004 07:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Robbiehead?
