My plane leaves in 15 minutes.

Mr. Snrub (Mr. Snrub), Wednesday, 31 March 2004 19:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Go Canada!

Kent Burt (lingereffect), Wednesday, 31 March 2004 22:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Sym (shmuel), Wednesday, 31 March 2004 23:13 (twenty-one years ago)

We were watching My Life Without Me the other night and I got up in the middle, turned to my wife and said "IS THIS CANADIAN OR SOMETHING?".

All my Canadian friends on ILX r gonna hate me now. but I called it, didn't I?

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 31 March 2004 23:15 (twenty-one years ago)

That's good news, but this brief excerpt from the ruling seems a bit guffaw-inducing in its logic (I'm sure the ruling as a whole makes a better case):

"No evidence was presented that the alleged infringers either distributed or authorized the reproduction of sound recordings," von Finckenstein wrote in his 28-page ruling. "They merely placed personal copies into their shared directories which were accessible by other computer users via a P2P service."

morris pavilion (samjeff), Wednesday, 31 March 2004 23:23 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm not sure it follows from this that one could download a song and make it available for other people to download. It sounds like the record companies did a crappy job of presenting their case, not that all music sharing is legal as a matter of law.

subgenius (subgenius), Wednesday, 31 March 2004 23:44 (twenty-one years ago)

We were watching My Life Without Me the other night and I got up in the middle, turned to my wife and said "IS THIS CANADIAN OR SOMETHING?".

Haha, I said the exact same thing when I watched it last week!!

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 31 March 2004 23:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Why is NO ONE focusing on the fact that the Judge's name is Justice Konrad von Finckenstein!?!?!?! What is wrong with you people?

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 31 March 2004 23:59 (twenty-one years ago)

omg that's brilliant.

Canada really is...different, isn't it?

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 1 April 2004 00:02 (twenty-one years ago)

They'll do anything for a shiny American dollar.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Thursday, 1 April 2004 00:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Haha I just imagine this Justice sounding like the snooty Judge from Futurama.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Thursday, 1 April 2004 00:06 (twenty-one years ago)

remind me to ban all you american PIRATES from my soulseek list.

mark p (Mark P), Thursday, 1 April 2004 00:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Arrrrr!

Claus Van Butthuggington (Alex in SF), Thursday, 1 April 2004 00:18 (twenty-one years ago)

...i can download unrepentantly.....and now have a krispy kreme a mere 3 blocks from my door. indeed this is paradise 8^)

william (william), Thursday, 1 April 2004 03:29 (twenty-one years ago)

They'll do anything for a shiny American dollar.

Ha, that's where you're wrong - our own dollars are MUCH shinier than yours! They're gold and have eleven sides and a nice duck or something engraved on the back.

Myonga Von Bontee (Myonga Von Bontee), Thursday, 1 April 2004 03:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Ha, that's where you're wrong - our own dollars are MUCH shinier than yours! They're gold and have eleven sides and a nice duck or something engraved on the back.

and when you unwrap them they are made of chocolate.

THE LOONIE RULES!

astroblaster (astroblaster), Thursday, 1 April 2004 06:03 (twenty-one years ago)

You can fuck sixteen year olds too.

And?

LC, Thursday, 1 April 2004 06:04 (twenty-one years ago)

AND
we can chill with the cubans

astroblaster (astroblaster), Thursday, 1 April 2004 06:27 (twenty-one years ago)

AND
you guys drink Dutch beer, are against gay marriage, against abortion, against innocent soft drugs, got the biggest adult movie industry in the world, and allow guns...

What a twisted little world you live in. (but that's just my opinion)

Flexizzle deLuxe (Flexizzle), Thursday, 1 April 2004 07:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Unless having the biggest adult movie industry in the world and drinking Dutch beer are the clinchers, by your logic the majority of people in every culture on the planet - except that of Canada - are twisted and small-minded. And if that's what you think, at least have the guts to say it. Or are these complaints just an excuse to vent a bigotry that's much more specific than that.

dmd, Thursday, 1 April 2004 07:38 (twenty-one years ago)

First we stick it to the US by refusing to jump in on Iraq, and now this! O Canada, my home and native land ...

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Thursday, 1 April 2004 09:17 (twenty-one years ago)

AND
we can chill with the cubans

Better still we can chill with a cuban.

Wonder if we have to share 35% Cancon between the hours of 6am and midnight or alternaticely make Bob and Doug wmv available.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Thursday, 1 April 2004 11:05 (twenty-one years ago)

"First we stick it to the US by refusing to jump in on IraQ"....

That one's not such a big deal.
Most of the planet did this as well

peepee (peepee), Thursday, 1 April 2004 12:19 (twenty-one years ago)

true enough ... but it's a different dynamic when you live right next to them. Canada-US relations are always a big political topic in Canada (but not in the US, because they don't really give a crap about us).

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Thursday, 1 April 2004 12:27 (twenty-one years ago)

the US did however give us a big patronizing pat on the back for improving our border security

astroblaster (astroblaster), Thursday, 1 April 2004 16:13 (twenty-one years ago)

(* in the background, The RIAA does a Celine-Dion style version of "Blame Canada!" *)

Lord Custos Omicron (Lord Custos Omicron), Friday, 2 April 2004 02:30 (twenty-one years ago)

by your logic the majority of people in every culture on the planet - except that of Canada - are twisted and small-minded. And if that's what you think, at least have the guts to say it.
That's probably right. But I wasn't just refering to Canada only. Couple of European countries too. (Holland, Belgium to name a few)
