Electroclash King Tips Gravers and Hipster-Yuppie-Scum

Jonty Skrufff Date Added: 20.3.2004

(excerpt)

Skrufff man-in-New York Larry Tee played to a Charlotte club full of cross dressers, freaks and industrial Goths last weekend, he told Skrufff this week, prompting the electroclash founder to highlight a growing crossover between his electro-disko-punk music and goths.

“We have a new brand of Goths here in America now, called ‘gravers’; they’re gothic ravers who wear baggy trousers with things like latex lace up corsets, the look is a mix of S&M gear combined with raver gear,” Larry told Skrufff.

“There were girls at the Charlotte club with tape on their breasts and boys with faux Westwood Sex necklaces wearing high heeled boots and laced up trousers. It’s the ugliest look but nonetheless entertaining and I really like it; I love the fact they’re dressing wild.”

Tamagothi codified the goth into rave meme.

Check this out: i went to see a goth electro band in Sydney recently who looked like Motley Crue and sounded like NIN only glammier. For their encore, they did Alice Cooper's 'Poison'. The crowd went nuts.

Didn't Ben Is Dead magazine invent the term "grave music" in 1991, but defined as "grunge rave"?

donut bitch (donut), Thursday, 1 April 2004 02:23 (twenty-one years ago)

I din't know that. And you didn't know that the word 'grunge' is an Australian invention. We even had a fanzine in 1985 in Sydney called 'Grunge It Severely'. Everyone called it grunge and it sounded just like Mudhoney. There were a thousand grunge bands in Australia up and down the country between 1983 and 1988. Several of them ended up on Sub Pop - which is where Mudhoney heard them, presumably.

But I digress. Grunge rave... was 18 Strings grunge rave?

'There were girls at the Charlotte club with tape on their breasts'

This makes me nostalgic for poor Wendy O Williams.

Were they really that witchy?, I'm just trying to remember them from my brothers's collection - I recall them being dance music with huge riffs with surfie/hippie stuff on top "we are surfers of the mind" (the one phrase I can remember). I do remember Fiona Horne's hay look I'm a witch phase - but that was later (and now apparently she's on a reality tv show in america).

X-post x 3

Jedmond (Jedmond), Thursday, 1 April 2004 04:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Part of the reason for the 3x Xpost was I just started searching for it on SS - no I just have to wait to get through the waiting list.
