I used to have a turntable with a 16rpm function - always wondered what it was for!

gascoin, Thursday, 1 April 2004 22:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Can't we talk about why a British sports car is an oxymoron?

"I used to have a turntable with a 16rpm function - always wondered what it was for!"

Filling up the second side of albums when the record company won't give you enough money.

as I recall The Make-Up had one in their tour van, the too-cool fuks.

sexyDancer, Thursday, 1 April 2004 22:40 (twenty-one years ago)

there's a 7" single player in the car in 'Take Care of Your Scarf, Tatjana', the Aki Karausmaki film (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0110832/). Was actually a slot loader, different model from the one on the webpage.

i'm told there's another in a Hal Hartly film.

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 2 April 2004 11:22 (twenty-one years ago)

my godfather had one of these. unsurprisingly he and my dad said it used to skip a lot...

Robin Goad (rgoad), Friday, 2 April 2004 11:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Can't imagine these could be mounted sturdy enough to handle the rigors of todays punchy subs - the thumps would make itself skip. And that, i like... ... almost like trying to make a solar powered flashlight.

christoff (christoff), Friday, 2 April 2004 13:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I guess this just goes to show how desperate people were to listen to music in their cars before the invention of cassettes.

o. nate (onate), Friday, 2 April 2004 14:05 (twenty-one years ago)

sixteen years pass...

well this went well.

My turntable's operating manual advises caution when operating in a car

It is a technics SL-10 and can play off DC power (and theoretically at an angle or upside down as it is a linear tracker with a built-in record clamp)

feel this feature may come in handy during the forthcoming Mad Max era
