tricky disco (disco stu), Friday, 2 April 2004 02:44 (twenty-one years ago)

What does everyone think of her as a live performer. I've never seen her but I'll be home in Chicago (and 21!)in time for her performance there.

I've only heard "Berlinette." I enjoyed it.

djdee2005, Friday, 2 April 2004 03:15 (twenty-one years ago)

http://www.ellenallien.de/site/seite02-video.htm

there's a brief live video here. its a festival thing in japan. did anybody catch her tour with t. raumschmiere semi-recently?

scissors (Honda), Friday, 2 April 2004 05:27 (twenty-one years ago)

OH DARN. ELLEN ALLIEN PLAYING IN PORTLAND OR ON MEMORIAL DAY.

donut bitch (donut), Friday, 2 April 2004 05:29 (twenty-one years ago)

..WEEKEND.

donut bitch (donut), Friday, 2 April 2004 05:30 (twenty-one years ago)

I hope she is DJing not laptopping (I like the mix thing I have better than any of her individual albums.)

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Friday, 2 April 2004 05:32 (twenty-one years ago)

(Memorial day weekend is the big Ned Raggett FAP weekend, so this makes for a sweet lil' bonus oh yes it does)

donut bitch (donut), Friday, 2 April 2004 05:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Sorry if my link up there didn't show up - it is supposed to be www.hopperpr.com

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Friday, 2 April 2004 06:14 (twenty-one years ago)

aw i want to see her! why won't she come to London? It's so much closer!

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Friday, 2 April 2004 10:12 (twenty-one years ago)

18-22 looks like a punishing schedule, no? i doubt the miami date will be all that

also what CNo4 said

zebedee (zebedee), Friday, 2 April 2004 10:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Sweet, she'll be in Detroit for the Movement Festival!

Jeff Sumner (Jeff Sumner), Friday, 2 April 2004 12:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm there. Fucking Club Six.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Friday, 2 April 2004 12:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, based on the schedule alone, I'm guessing she will be flying from day to day on the average, and therefore will have a minimal arsenal of gear to use. Probably a laptop, or some digital form of DJing, or both.

I will be there for the Portland show.

donut bitch (donut), Friday, 2 April 2004 17:01 (twenty-one years ago)

i saw here play in glasgow and was quite dissapointed. i get the impression she was told to tone it down but maybe shell be better elsewhere.

ladyintheradiator, Friday, 2 April 2004 22:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Dude, what the fuck is up with that video? Maybe it's just that I live in America where we don't have Wire festivals, but there are, like, 9 million people in the audience -- it's like Ibiza and we're waiting for the bubbles to come pouring down from the rafters. That and her performance seems to consist largely of her jumping up and down, pumping her fists in the air...

Naive Teen Idol (Naive Teen Idol), Saturday, 3 April 2004 05:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Ha Adam...your favorite club after the Rephlex night..I know the feeling.

cRaiG (craig!), Saturday, 3 April 2004 05:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Its a "rave".

hector (hector), Saturday, 3 April 2004 05:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Really? It looks like the video for "The Reflex"...

Naive Teen Idol (Naive Teen Idol), Saturday, 3 April 2004 06:11 (twenty-one years ago)

or the Reflex

or Cheap Trick Live at Budakahn

hector (hector), Saturday, 3 April 2004 20:07 (twenty-one years ago)

I think she's foxy. Will definately be at APT

die_nerds (die_nerds), Sunday, 4 April 2004 01:22 (twenty-one years ago)

You can check out Detroit Movement Details and stuff over at www.detroitmovementguide.com

John Patterson, Thursday, 8 April 2004 04:31 (twenty-one years ago)

God she IS hot!

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 8 April 2004 10:01 (twenty-one years ago)

No Washington D.C. appearance...No Rephlex, no Kompact appearances here either...

Steve Kiviat (Steve K), Thursday, 8 April 2004 16:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Sucks mightily — particularly the latter.

Naive Teen Idol (Naive Teen Idol), Thursday, 8 April 2004 16:32 (twenty-one years ago)

one month passes...
From ellanallien.de:
"We are very sorry to annouce that the Ellen Allien Tour
planned in the U.S.Had to be canceled.
After two Dj sets in Canada (Montreal and Quebec)
the U.S.Customs Authorities refused to let her into the
Country.
We tried to make it work out, but unfortunately
we couldn´t convince them tolet her in.
We apologize to everybody who was looking forward
to seeing and hearing
Ellen play.We are all very sad about it!
But we hope to be able to arrange a new tour in
the near future.
"

:(

donut bitch (donut), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 15:22 (twenty-one years ago)

illegal allien?

(sorry)

zebedee (zebedee), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 15:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah OM mailed out something on this. Too bad.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 15:39 (twenty-one years ago)

ack, was going to drive to Austin for this

dleone (dleone), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 16:13 (twenty-one years ago)

al qaeda

Naive Teen Idol (Naive Teen Idol), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 16:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Fuck this country.

Gear! (Gear!), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 17:06 (twenty-one years ago)

banned for playing seditious beats?

hector (hector), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 17:46 (twenty-one years ago)

After the imminent draft (all war, all the time), the hotties that inhabit MTL, I didn't think I'd need a third reason to move north, yet there you have it.

nader (nader), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 17:57 (twenty-one years ago)

As I understand it, Ellen failed to secure the proper visa. So while it does indeed suck, and while I think US policies for performers' visas are counterproductive and isolationist, it's not like it was an arbitrary decision to shut her out... she could have come in if she'd had her papers in order.

For anyone that will be coming to Austin, I'm actually DJing in her place. I don't DJ nearly as well as she does, and nor am I quite as nice to look at, but I've got great records and I clean up pretty well. So, you know, come on down. The AMODA folks seem pretty cool, and it's to their credit that the show goes on.

philip sherburne (philip sherburne), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 21:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I will, of course, play Autechre's Anti in her honor. Thanks for the inspiration, Hector!

philip sherburne (philip sherburne), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 21:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Beans is Dj'ing in Ellen's place at APT tonite. Should be fun.

Jay Vee (Manon_70), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 21:08 (twenty-one years ago)

uh

mark p (Mark P), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 21:09 (twenty-one years ago)

five months pass...
the new dates from another thread:

16.11.2004 New York/USA-Tour APT
18.11.2004 Chicago/USA-Tour Smart Bar
19.11.2004 Portland/USA-Tour Holocene
20.11.2004 San Francisco/USA-Tour RX Gallery
21.11.2004 Austin/USA-Tour Plush
24.11.2004 Detroit/USA-Tour Oslo
25.11.2004 Montreal/CAN Parking
26.11.2004 Toronto/CAN Mod Club

so what's the rx gallery like?

tricky (disco stu), Saturday, 13 November 2004 01:17 (twenty years ago)

oh yes, im going to APT for this then straight to the airport to go to london. should be scary.

phil-two (phil-two), Saturday, 13 November 2004 02:16 (twenty years ago)

have fun in london phil! don't get stuck on the runway at lga like i did. :)

tricky (disco stu), Saturday, 13 November 2004 02:55 (twenty years ago)

I can tell you what RX Gallery is like after tomorrow when I see Superpitcher & Ada there.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Saturday, 13 November 2004 03:00 (twenty years ago)

ok, it's a deal. i'm going to see superpitcher and ada tonight so i can tell you about that. i'm pretty excited to be going to sf. maybe i can meet some of you sf ilmists.

tricky (disco stu), Saturday, 13 November 2004 03:24 (twenty years ago)

I totally blew off seeing Superpitcher/Ada last night. Didn't have the energy to go through 8 hours in a bus :/

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Saturday, 13 November 2004 03:32 (twenty years ago)

I missed Shitkatapult label showcase for less hours last week. I'm so lame.

latetotheparty (latetotheparty), Saturday, 13 November 2004 04:47 (twenty years ago)

yeah, i didn't think the set last night was very inspiring. it didn't really go anywhere, and the segues and dramatic variations in bpm could be pretty jarring. she did start building a fun, jumpy vibe for a while, but then she killed her own vibe by playing a bunch of really slow, dull tracks.

geeta (geeta), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 20:46 (twenty years ago)

This is disappointing. :( Hopefully she will be better in SF.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 20:52 (twenty years ago)

i agree!

it's tricky (disco stu), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 20:54 (twenty years ago)

(i've seen her play before and it's been great so who knows...)

it's tricky (disco stu), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 20:55 (twenty years ago)

APT = WTF. Let's run a second, useless bar through the middle of the none-too-large space to make dancing impossible and crowd flow a disaster!

The sound was good and I'm sure it's nice when there are half the people stuffed in as were last night. I left a little past midnight.

W i l l (common_person), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 21:05 (twenty years ago)

I'm hoping Phil is just saying that to cheer me up over missing it. (Did anyone wind up using that spot?)

oh, i told my friend julie to use it. thanks for that. i didn't get there until 12:30 or so, just in time to see my friend hit on s1mon reynolds and to catch LFO "Freak" which i love... but then yawn bore. left by 2:30.

if anyone in nyc is around, magda, troy, marc from run stop restore (m_nus) are playing at canal room. i'll be there until the bitter end. then flying to london tomorrow.

phil-two (phil-two), Thursday, 18 November 2004 04:35 (twenty years ago)

but i remember once ellen telling my roommate that she only plays records that she gets for free (promos or from her label) or that people give her....

phil-two (phil-two), Thursday, 18 November 2004 04:36 (twenty years ago)

also andrew andrew weren't there, which was a huge disappointment

phil-two (phil-two), Thursday, 18 November 2004 04:36 (twenty years ago)

I got too drunk. It was way crowded. Blah.

Geeta - DP4, right? OSX or 9?

Jay Vee (Manon_70), Thursday, 18 November 2004 05:05 (twenty years ago)

if anyone in nyc is around, magda, troy, marc from run stop restore (m_nus) are playing at canal room. i'll be there until the bitter end. then flying to london tomorrow.

ken taylrr (ken taylrr), Thursday, 18 November 2004 05:14 (twenty years ago)

oof, just got home. will see magda in london. ill say hi for you

phil-two (phil-two), Thursday, 18 November 2004 09:24 (twenty years ago)

okay i will be at the sf show. i'll probably be wearing a jean jacket and i'll be with a guy who is very tall. if you see me, come up and say hi! how big is the rx gallery?

it's tricky (disco stu), Thursday, 18 November 2004 20:47 (twenty years ago)

Not very big, but I will be tall and wearing a JEANS jacket, too! Oh no!

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Thursday, 18 November 2004 20:48 (twenty years ago)

(seriously)

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Thursday, 18 November 2004 20:48 (twenty years ago)

it's all about denim and techno!

it's tricky (disco stu), Thursday, 18 November 2004 20:53 (twenty years ago)

I do not have a jeans jacket, but I will be there. I do not know what I will eb wearing. I will be quite short and standing next to Alex, most likely.

adam... (nordicskilla), Friday, 19 November 2004 16:19 (twenty years ago)

maybe I'll show up!

kyle (akmonday), Friday, 19 November 2004 16:25 (twenty years ago)

Don't tease us!

adam... (nordicskilla), Friday, 19 November 2004 16:29 (twenty years ago)

God I am developing the WORST cold. I'll still make it, but avoid me!

adam... (nordicskilla), Friday, 19 November 2004 21:58 (twenty years ago)

okay i will be at the sf show. i'll probably be wearing a jean jacket and i'll be with a guy who is very tall. if you see me, come up and say hi! how big is the rx gallery?

-- Alex in SF (clobberthesauru...), November 18th, 2004.

shit, you guys, too!??! alright, then. i'll wear a small greenish jacket, black-rimmed glasses, and a black combat cap.

should we all wear red ILM armbands, y'know, for ID?

ken taylrr (ken taylrr), Friday, 19 November 2004 23:56 (twenty years ago)

Now, who of us is going to Soft Pink Truth and DMX Krew on Monday at Mighty? (Daniel, you don't need to respond to this... you're sort of a given)

ken taylrr (ken taylrr), Friday, 19 November 2004 23:59 (twenty years ago)

Maybe! As I said to Alex, I still haven't heard TSPT!

adam... (nordicskilla), Saturday, 20 November 2004 00:01 (twenty years ago)

I haven't decided. I'm usually burned out Monday night, but next week might be silly slow here.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Saturday, 20 November 2004 00:02 (twenty years ago)

There isn't anything else good coming up!

adam... (nordicskilla), Saturday, 20 November 2004 00:03 (twenty years ago)

Is there not? I am hoping Wasteland tours out here. Perhaps DJ /rupture.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Saturday, 20 November 2004 00:03 (twenty years ago)

I would love it if they did.

adam... (nordicskilla), Saturday, 20 November 2004 00:08 (twenty years ago)

Perhaps Mayer will come when Touch gets a proper release??

adam... (nordicskilla), Saturday, 20 November 2004 00:09 (twenty years ago)

I would like Moodymann or Parrish.

adam... (nordicskilla), Saturday, 20 November 2004 00:10 (twenty years ago)

Rupture just played/is about to play London with a giant band!

adam... (nordicskilla), Saturday, 20 November 2004 00:11 (twenty years ago)

I know Nas El Ghiwane (super famous Morrocan band) are playing with him!

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Saturday, 20 November 2004 00:14 (twenty years ago)

yes!

adam... (nordicskilla), Saturday, 20 November 2004 00:15 (twenty years ago)

Although according to his website it won't be until next year at the earliest. :(

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Saturday, 20 November 2004 00:16 (twenty years ago)

yeah, Thanksgiving weekend will be quite slow in SF... other than Gold Chains on friday... sorry, completly drifting from this thread...

ken taylrr (ken taylrr), Saturday, 20 November 2004 00:21 (twenty years ago)

should we all wear red ILM armbands, y'know, for ID?

i will wear a t-shirt that says, "luomo is the bomb yo" in adam's honor.

i can't make it to the soft pink truth show unfortunately...

it's tricky (disco stu), Saturday, 20 November 2004 00:24 (twenty years ago)

Well, someone in Portland tell me how the show is tonight... I'm not makin' the trek down, unfortunately.

donut christ (donut), Saturday, 20 November 2004 00:26 (twenty years ago)

i'm gonna make a shirt that says "I'm with the drummer from Gay Dad"

ken taylrr (ken taylrr), Saturday, 20 November 2004 00:27 (twenty years ago)

oh, and my point being, i'll be wearing it.

ken taylrr (ken taylrr), Saturday, 20 November 2004 00:28 (twenty years ago)

Well I won't be standing next to you then. ;)

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Saturday, 20 November 2004 00:29 (twenty years ago)

Adam, will you be wearing your "Image Not Shown. Copy This Image To Your Own Site And Host It, Leech" t-shirt?

donut christ (donut), Saturday, 20 November 2004 00:32 (twenty years ago)

HAAHAHA

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Saturday, 20 November 2004 00:34 (twenty years ago)

Bump.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Saturday, 20 November 2004 16:37 (twenty years ago)

i'm going to see her in toronto on the 26th, but after all these advance reviews, i'm a lot less excited about it. :(

mark p (Mark P), Saturday, 20 November 2004 17:20 (twenty years ago)

a pessimist is never dissapointed ;o)

ladedadeda, Saturday, 20 November 2004 20:00 (twenty years ago)

now I have a fucking cold. so I'm probably not coming. where is the soft pink truth show on monday?

kyle (akmonday), Sunday, 21 November 2004 00:27 (twenty years ago)

soft pink truth is at Mighty in SF

ken taylrr (ken taylrr), Sunday, 21 November 2004 00:44 (twenty years ago)

so, thoughts? man, the sound in that place is rough...sorry i missed Philip play... caught most of Ellen's set, which I thought wasn't particularly great

ken taylrr (ken taylrr), Sunday, 21 November 2004 20:59 (twenty years ago)

agreed that the sound is rough...the crowd had zero energy too. maybe because it was so hot in there. i left around 1. great art though and i really liked safety scissors' set.

it's tricky (disco stu), Monday, 22 November 2004 00:35 (twenty years ago)

yeah, the sound was ASS and then some, and the crowd wasn't helping matters in the energy dept, though they could hardly be blamed. really effing frustrating night.

too close for comfort (philip sherburne), Monday, 22 November 2004 02:08 (twenty years ago)

what was the deal with the "NO PATRON DANCING" sign posted upon entry? are there cabaret laws here?

ken taylrr (ken taylrr), Monday, 22 November 2004 02:44 (twenty years ago)

er, Dance Hall Keeper/ Place of Entertainment license laws?

ken taylrr (ken taylrr), Monday, 22 November 2004 03:06 (twenty years ago)
