How good are they??

I mean Wonderful and Dirty Talk or even theme from Klein and MBO, they're all the COOLEST records ever. Do they even sound dated? Not to me anyway.

Try playing Dirty Talk and Blue Monday back to back; you may notice a similarity. (I think that New Order eventually 'fessed up to this.)

At the time (late 82), I hated Dirty Talk. About 10 years later, I realised what was so great about it.

Superb, and people have been trying to make them sound dated/passe for a long time - the girl's laugh in "Dirty Talk" gets me everytime as well.

Now if only somebody will re-release the LP in full, I think the rest of the album justifies it.

didn't New Order steal Wondefull's bassline as well?, for a technique song.

Yeah, "Dirty Talk" is mighty... but they definitely didn't mix up the formula much. Don't break your back seeking out other material, but if you don't have "Dirty Talk," you should definitely acquire it.

There was an obscure German techno band called Moskwa TV that did a good cover it under the name "Techno Talk" that's a slighty more Wax Trax-ian take on the song.

the whole album is good, plus I have a later single Keep In Touch which is really sexy but a bit more hi-nrg sounding.

related: Capricorn's 'I Need Love' apparently dates from '84, Italo-Disco vein, but whether this is the same Capricorn that went on to do '20Hz' some years later I'm not sure

wonder if it had a direct influence on Vanity 6's 'make-up' too...they all seem to take their cue from Kraftwerk 'Showroom Dummies' anyway (think that's the track I mean)

stevem (blueski), Friday, 2 April 2004 15:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Vanity 6 was totally Prince's chance to do a New Wave record, it even has that B-52s homage.

three years pass...

Ronan otm, this is massive.

The synths chime like bells, more so even than "The Model" which is the Kraftwerk it's copping I think. Then that male vocal intoning "dirty talk" is silly and climactic all at once, so unexpected that the female vocalist starts laughing but that just spins the synth lead into a higher register (and this is the specific bit that makes me think of "The Model") and the whole track dissolves into a giggly orgasm. Yeah, how good are they??

i will rep for "the big apple" since no one else on this thread has done so yet

impudent harlot, Sunday, 10 February 2008 21:54 (seventeen years ago)

a certain ilxor's reworking of the big apple is very excellent too. smooths out the scratchiness of the original. what are the other great (vocal) tracks apart from this and 'dirty talk'?

NI, Sunday, 10 February 2008 22:38 (seventeen years ago)

"wonderful" and...yeah, those are the only three songs of theirs i've heard

impudent harlot, Monday, 11 February 2008 15:57 (seventeen years ago)

I totally revived The Big Apple.
