AMG (Kim Summers?) gives Andrew Ridgeley's 1990 album, "Son of Albert", nearly five stars. Granted, having never heard the songs on the album, it was probably unfair of me to assume it would be rubbish, but can it really be this good? Anyone familiar with the release like to comment?

Sorry, a terrifically broken link, there - not sure why.

Had a look, I note that if you hover above the link requesting something "more dark", you get a pic of Roger Waters. (or the Chipmonks, the times I tried it)

That should do it.

I remember hearing his single, "Shake," at some point during the spring of '90, but I don't remember being all that impressed by it.

How could you let this happen?

I hate you and I wanted to make you cry.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 3 April 2004 05:37 (twenty-one years ago)

I remember the Rolling Stone review of this record, actually. They meant to give it one star, I think, but they forgot to print anything where the stars are usually printed. Seems like that says it all, really...

Naive Teen Idol (Naive Teen Idol), Saturday, 3 April 2004 05:43 (twenty-one years ago)

It's either Ned or Andy. Or perhaps both. I can't believe they'd do this to us.

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 3 April 2004 10:43 (twenty-one years ago)

No mention of Analog Baroque's "The Gongs" still on All Music.

There was Noddy Holder on Top Of The Pops with his top hat of mirrors.

We were colleagues, sort of. I was actually there when Andrew's nose was boken by an ice bucket - thrown at him by a one of his friends during a drunken argument over a girl. In response to Andrew complaining in an interview about the amount of column inches his subsequent nose job generated in the tabloids, the paparazzi ceremonially put down their cameras and turned their backs on him as he walked out of the same nightclub a few weeks later. They were harsh. On a personal level, I can tell you that Andrew Ridgeley is a really kind, decent human being. And, although I'm sure it would surprise some people, "Son of Albert" is indeed a very good album. Don't knock it.. don't put down those Nokias.

Cyrano, Sunday, 4 April 2004 14:54 (twenty-one years ago)

bad writer.

RJG (RJG), Sunday, 4 April 2004 15:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Not really fair.. my first language is French. How well do you write in French? As well as I do in English?

Cyrano, Sunday, 4 April 2004 16:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Chuck Eddy wrote a really funny review of this album in SPIN. It was one of his where you can't tell if he actually enjoys it or if he's just trying to note what's interesting about it. At the end he recommended you "be frugal" and buy the cassette, whose Exile On Mainstreet-style grime is cleaned up to INXS levels on the CD.

Goddamn, why do I have a photograph memory of old SPIN reviews...

I didn't mean you, cyrano. I didn't even read your post.
