I love Electric Wizard!! Last I heard she was in the band Sourvein who I've never even heard. It's a weird small world i tellya. And oh the stories i could tell about little lizzie. She's a great gal. The doom world needs more cool women that's for sure.(Her father was a singer and a voice teacher and he put out a u.k. album called The Gay Bachelor!) (at least i think that was the title.) Color me impressed! Even more so than with my high school buddy Rob who became a straightedge hardcore legend or my pal Kari who became a b-movie queen (and who also put out an album but it sounded pretty bad from what i heard on the howard stern show once) or betsey who became an art-star (alright i was impressed by the full-page ad for the whitney biennial with her painting featured in the NYT last week) first famous for her kurt and jarvis paintings or my brother who is famous in Taiwan and Switzerland for his underground noise. Okay, I'm proud of my brother too. Cuz he is fucked-up and not like regular people. But doom rock! it's where i live. This link is old though. She might be in Guns&Roses by now.

that's my impression of someone on ilx, i don't know who.

el sabor de gene (yournullfame), Friday, 2 April 2004 11:49 (twenty-one years ago)

I have the 13 demo. haven't listened to it in years.

scott seward (scott seward), Friday, 2 April 2004 12:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Why don't you tell some stories about Liz then? I like der Waizard and Sourvein very much thank you and it's a slow day

DJ Mencap (DJ Mencap), Friday, 2 April 2004 12:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Can I just say that the singer for 13 ruled!! and should have been a huge star. 4 Real! She was as good as the singer for Achrosticon (sp?) or maybe even Dawn Crosby during her Ross Robinson/Detente years. (I love you Dawn! I will never 4get you. R.I.P.)

Liz? I would just like to take all credit for turning Liz on to tons of cool music back in the day. She was a much bigger fan of Cinderella and Faster Pussycat then I was. OOPS! Don't tell the doom hordes that. I like those bands more now anyway. I was punkasfuck back then. But seriously, she was always into new sounds and had great taste. She was very girly until she started working for Spider Webb at Spider's tattoo parlour in beautiful Derby, Connecticut. But Spider and his clientele turned her into one bad-ass mama.

I was hoping they'd be dirty Ah, lost youth

DJ Mencap (DJ Mencap), Friday, 2 April 2004 13:27 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, sorry, nothing spicey. we used to fool around together when we were kids. but that was just kid stuff. we became great friends. I haven't seen her in years though. She is one of the few people from back then that i would even want to see again. We lost touch after she started hanging with the EyeHateGod krew down south.

scott seward (scott seward), Friday, 2 April 2004 13:42 (twenty-one years ago)

She's not the one who married Mike Williams, is she? And the one that used to write for Metal Maniacs?

Phil Freeman (Phil Freeman), Friday, 2 April 2004 13:45 (twenty-one years ago)

i know she was involved with one of the EHG'ers but i don't know which one. i dunno about the metal maniacs thing. that's the first i've heard of that.

scott seward (scott seward), Friday, 2 April 2004 13:52 (twenty-one years ago)

No, Alicia Morgan was the editor of Manics, she was the singer of 13. My friend Kerri worked at that tattoo shop with Liz; I guess everyone's life must pass eventually through the Stu Leonard's and Texas Taco triangle of Western CT.

Ian Christe (Ian Christe), Friday, 2 April 2004 14:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Kerri just moved to Israel.

scott seward (scott seward), Friday, 2 April 2004 14:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Kerri was the love of my brother's life. They went out for years.

scott seward (scott seward), Friday, 2 April 2004 14:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Ian, go on ebay and pick up a copy of Bunnybrains CD 93 for a couple bucks. Every song on that album is about Kerri. I haven't seen her since she moved to D.C. but my brother has.

scott seward (scott seward), Friday, 2 April 2004 14:13 (twenty-one years ago)

So you don't know about the authentic Maori facial tattoo she picked up in New Zealand? It's very becoming.

Ian Christe (Ian Christe), Friday, 2 April 2004 14:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Ha! I'll bet. I actually heard about the getting married and moving to Israel thing from my parents. She stopped by their place not that long ago.

scott seward (scott seward), Friday, 2 April 2004 15:01 (twenty-one years ago)

I had no idea that Alicia edited Metal Maniacs at one point! See, I learn something new every day. And Mike was involved with the mag as well?

scott seward (scott seward), Friday, 2 April 2004 15:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, it was really a high point for the mag, a carry-over of the doors opened by original editor Katherine Ludwig. Tons of good writers, including Mike, Barney Greenway, and Kevin Sharp ( I covered marginal stuff like Faxed Head, Neubaten and Jesus Lizard); the covers were always black instead of purple, green, or fire engine red; and the cover stories were on Bathory, Saint Vitus, and the like. I remember a Seth Putnam pinup. Yuk, but har har. Needless to say, they clashed with the corporate culture. Mike's got a couple books coming out soon, of lyrics and other reprobate writings.

Ian Christe (Ian Christe), Friday, 2 April 2004 15:34 (twenty-one years ago)

He found a publisher? Good deal. I interviewed him awhile back, and recommended he contact the folks who put out my first book, but they've since sunk beneath the waves of acrimony (and possible lawsuits).

Phil Freeman (Phil Freeman), Friday, 2 April 2004 16:27 (twenty-one years ago)

that's really cool. it's the kind of thing you always hope will happen to a magazine but it never does.

scott seward (scott seward), Friday, 2 April 2004 16:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I just found some antique gay men who told me that Liz's dad was ostracized from the vocal teaching community for his Scientologist beliefs..makes sense. Not every song on cd 93 is about Kerri..some are about killing her boyfriend atthe time.I didnt teach Liz how to play guitar..but i did lust in my heart on many occasions for her..oh and her brother is a hotshot model photog.Kerri doesnt live in Israel,,she lives upstate NY.Ummm im hungry
dan

dan bunnybrain (dan bunnybrain), Sunday, 4 April 2004 19:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Why did my parents, um, our parents, tell me she moved to Israel? maybe she was just visiting.

scott seward (scott seward), Sunday, 4 April 2004 20:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Liz's dad was a jerk and I don't even care if I say that on a public forum. I used to want to belt the guy on many an occasion. He was a big meanie.

scott seward (scott seward), Sunday, 4 April 2004 20:41 (twenty-one years ago)

When did she join the band? Was she involved in _Dopethrone_?
Love that album. I wish I could find more that sound exactly the same.

Squirrel_Police (Squirrel_Police), Sunday, 4 April 2004 20:53 (twenty-one years ago)

she will be on their next album. i don't know when it's coming out though. The website sez it was supposed to come out in january.

scott seward (scott seward), Sunday, 4 April 2004 21:02 (twenty-one years ago)

I e-mailed the Music Cartel (their US label) and was told they were waiting for final artwork, and to expect it in the summer. I can't wait. Whole new lineup, except for Jus...wonder what they'll sound like with two guitars?

Phil Freeman (Phil Freeman), Sunday, 4 April 2004 23:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Even bigger and more monstrous! It's kinda scary to even contemplate.

scott seward (scott seward), Sunday, 4 April 2004 23:24 (twenty-one years ago)

i just hope ms. buckingham's style comes through. she's one of the more distinctive players in the whole doom thing.
