....

........NO ONE?

Dude (The Yellow Dart), Sunday, 4 April 2004 03:58 (twenty-one years ago)

As I've never heard them... not me!!

Mr. Snrub (Mr. Snrub), Sunday, 4 April 2004 04:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Their appearence gimmick is above Interpol's but below The Resident's.

David Allen (David Allen), Sunday, 4 April 2004 04:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Their music's pretty good. At least I think so. So yeah, I'm kinda stoked.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Sunday, 4 April 2004 04:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Mmm. I like them ok but i don't think I need another album from them. Internal Wrangler was excellent, sure, but...a one album band if ever there was one.

Then again I said the same about The Streets and I'm really, really psyched for the new album, so, you know, who knows.

roger adultery (roger adultery), Sunday, 4 April 2004 07:50 (twenty-one years ago)

So soon?

Mary (Mary), Sunday, 4 April 2004 08:35 (twenty-one years ago)

jaymc (jaymc), Sunday, 4 April 2004 09:02 (twenty-one years ago)

I am pumped.

Matt Boch (Matt Boch), Sunday, 4 April 2004 09:06 (twenty-one years ago)

GEEKED.

Nate in ST.P (natedetritus), Sunday, 4 April 2004 13:23 (twenty-one years ago)

<em>"Their appearence gimmick is above Interpol's but below The Resident's."</em>

(I am assuming this is a dig at Clinic, I might be wrong.)

Doesn't their "gimmick" seem more of a statement of fun than when compared to Interpol's--therefore more acceptable?

the impossible shortest special path! (the impossible shortest specia), Sunday, 4 April 2004 15:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, and thus, above Interpol's.

David Allen (David Allen), Sunday, 4 April 2004 15:24 (twenty-one years ago)

I agree - Clinic's gimmick makes me feel silly and warped enough to play along, whereas Interpol's makes me never want to use any kind of wax hair product ever again. My vigilance when it comes to never, ever being mistaken for emulating "serious" artist behavior is so unyielding I may start wearing track pants to the club again.

LC, Sunday, 4 April 2004 15:29 (twenty-one years ago)

"I may start wearing track pants to the club again."

This may backfire.

the impossible shortest special path! (the impossible shortest specia), Sunday, 4 April 2004 15:30 (twenty-one years ago)

four months pass...
Interpol's gimmick is more simple and more acceptable thus less meaningful, worthy and fun. I've seen them once- guys wearing dark clothing, gel or hair wax, at an awful show where fun was condemned by staff and revelers alike. I'm not sure if Interpol's shtick qualifies as gimmick. There's no real chance taking there. If there is something smart to it, then the shtick is stupid because they play rock music, and rock music fans shouldn't be expected to think. Clinic wears medical scrubs (duh!) which is clever. They wear masks, too, which makes playing live more difficult. Even tho they haven't put out a good album since Internal Wrangler.

Shaun (shaun), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 02:02 (twenty-one years ago)

the new clinic album seems like a mix of internal wrangler and walking w/ thee, re-treading a lot of ground they've already covered and not really improving on it. the formula still works out & i like the songs alright, but i'd rather just listen to internal wrangler for the most part

6335, Wednesday, 25 August 2004 02:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Clinic, as I've stated elsewhere, are one of those bands who are so much better in theory than they actually are in practice. "Dudes playing scary organ-driven garage rock while wearing surgical masks!? KICK ASS!"
You hear a few songs, and this impression sticks. You hear a few albums and fall asleep. This is why Internal Wrangler works so well, it's brief and to the point. It's over before it starts to get repetitive.

Bands who emerge with a fully-formed, well thought out, and instantly recognizable sound who then proceed to do nothing with it: Classic or Dud?

Zach Ayres (Z_Ayres), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 02:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I may be the only person in the world who likes Walking with Thee better. I found the lyrics somehow uplifting. So I am somewhat disappointed the new songs hark back to earlier herky jerky. I'm a keep listening thinking there's something I'm missing.

evil bill, Wednesday, 25 August 2004 02:49 (twenty-one years ago)

CLASSIC: "Bands who emerge with a fully-formed, well thought out, and instantly recognizable sound"

DUD: "who then proceed to do nothing with it"

you can't combine the two.

Shaun (shaun), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 02:54 (twenty-one years ago)

point taken. just trying to see what kind of responses such a question would garner.

Zach Ayres (Z_Ayres), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 03:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Have you heard a Clinic album since Internal Wrangler, then?

saw them last night, at maxwell's. new stuff sounds super great.

also, met the super nice terre t (of wfmu fame).

Creeztophair, Sunday, 22 August 2010 17:27 (fifteen years ago)

anything new to their sound?

Daniel, Esq., Sunday, 22 August 2010 17:31 (fifteen years ago)

uhhh... not really?. a bit poppier in places.

Creeztophair, Sunday, 22 August 2010 22:49 (fifteen years ago)

i ask because of what i said upthread. i like this band a lot, but to me they've exhausted/burnt-out their sound.

a bit poppier might work nicely.

Daniel, Esq., Sunday, 22 August 2010 22:50 (fifteen years ago)

here's the new single, if you haven't heard it. video by the dude who does junk for sfa.
