cat power's "moonshiner" is pretty good but i'm sure there's a version out there that's really heart-wrenching. anyone?

Best song ever!

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Saturday, 27 November 2004 02:46 (twenty years ago)

i'm pretty sure the most heart wrenching versions of moonshiner are unrecorded.
the only other version i've heard is from the smithsonian folkways anth.
so not heart wrenching, but it is titled 'moonshiners dance'. so if you can be happy about your early grave, put it on.

Tom Waits - The Piano Has Been Drinking

it's the distortion, stupid! (alex in mainhattan), Tuesday, 19 May 2015 13:25 (ten years ago)

I posted it in the other drinking songs thread, but Bonnie 'Prince' Billy's 'I Am Drinking Again' is probably a better fit here.

Ape Pagoda (Old Lunch), Tuesday, 19 May 2015 14:35 (ten years ago)

Lou Reed - The Last Shot or Underneath The Bottle

The former is his greatest "glad to be sober" song which contains the vivid lyric, "I shot a vein in my neck and I coughed up a quaalude."
