Jesus And Marychain

I have been going through old CD's from highschool since I have moved into a new house. I found my old marychain albums and gave them a listen along with watching their video collection.

As I was watching the video it struck me how *dumb* it all was, non-sense lyrics, recycled 60's melodies, and the shallow personalities of the Reid Brothers themselves. Then it also occured to me how I had completely missed that aspect of it when I was 16, I just thought they played good pop songs, and made me wish I could look sexy(instead of silly) in leather trowsers and sunglasses. Also, even then I knew that they did not make another good record until Honey's Dead.

I guess my questions are: What are the ultimate attributes of the perfect pop group, and b. were Marychain really the new Sex Pistols for 5 minutes in 85, or just another band consigned to the dustbin of the 1980's? How do ILM'er feel about The JMC?

are you saying 'darklands' was not any good? strange seeing 'happy when it rains' in a chevy commercial.

I say theyre good just because they seemed calm

I really hate the phrase 'perfect pop', as well as any music described as such. 'Perfect pop' = 'planned community'

as with ac/dc, 50's johnny cash & chuck berry, the ramones, maybe even spiritualized(?) and all the other "their songs all sound the same" geniuses, the beauty of the jesus & mary chain lay in their pursuit of the ideal song within strictly defined parameters.

now what about this black rebel motorcycle club? worth checking out? I can't get over the lame name...

>>> How do ILM'er feel about The JMC?

It has all been said (stoopidity and all) on the original JAMC 'Phycocandy' (sic) thread, which is probably at the bottom of the Classic or Dud pile. (I don't mean, though, that there is nothing more to say - au contraire.)

No, not worth it. I've already been suckered there.

No they were not the Sex Pistols of 1985, but Never Understand thundered into my mind when you started to question their validity.

Brilliant

one month passes...
Jesus & Marychain are one of the best indie bands out there. I feel "Darklands" is their best work and then "PsychoCandy". I was so excited a few years back here in Hollywood they were going to do a free show at Virgin Megastore yet they were too drunk to perform. Last month I was lucky enough to hear them D.J. at a club here in Hollywood. The only indie stuff I can get into nowadays would be: Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Frank Black, Dandy Warhols, Blur, Radiohead, amongst others. Anyways I have tons of rare stuff if anyone is up for some CD burns get with me. From Jesus and Marychain I'm after a copy of: Barbed Wire Kisses and The Peel Sessions Cheers, Stuart
