I bought a VCR cassette in a Salvation Army store...the front door was damaged and broken but the tape was good. I took the cassette apart...going to drop it into another. Oops! Things drop out and get mixed up when you disassemble the cassette. Is there a schematic drawing someplace or a book I could purcase? Thanks for any help...MUCH APPRECIATED!

VCR Cassette? Do you mean a VHS movie?

First off, what was the movie !?

I've done this and it was easy but I was careful.

How can I make looped tapes from junked audio cassettes?

Cassettes aren't too difficult:
--open cassette, remove tape--
--cut a length of tape to be looped, attatch ends together with scotch tape(same adhesive as splicing tape)--
--place tape back in shell, following correct tape path, with oxide on the outside. Depending on the quality of your tape deck, it should play for a while before the tape is "rejected". Look for answering machine tapes--some are built as a loop, but the fidelity is atrocious.

why don't you try opening up another cassette being more careful, and check out how to put your other one back together?

Sounds a sure fire way to ruin your whole video collection. But its the best plan we've got, so we better run with it!

The best way to deal with this is to put the cassette in a plastic bag, deposit it in the trash and go to the store and buy the movie on DVD.

Failing that, jam all the pieces and parts back into the case, hammer severely a few times, take outside and pour lighter fluid over it and pretend you're Jimi at Monterey. It won't fix the tape, but you'll feel a hell of a lot better.
