strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Monday, 5 April 2004 02:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Record or mixtape?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 5 April 2004 02:08 (twenty-one years ago)

oh god i'm sure it's all over mixtapes already

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Monday, 5 April 2004 02:09 (twenty-one years ago)

the "HUH?!"on this track also sums up everything that bothers me about kanye the rapper.

scissors (Honda), Monday, 5 April 2004 02:10 (twenty-one years ago)

actually it was probably all over mixtapes like six months ago and is long gone now that all the "clever" white folks have decided to make my life a living hell by shouting it at the bar

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Monday, 5 April 2004 02:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, they had to move on from the "Wassaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaap?" bit at some point.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 5 April 2004 02:10 (twenty-one years ago)

"i love little jon. i listen to little jon all the time."

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Monday, 5 April 2004 02:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Do they actually pronounce it 'little,' using the Queen's English?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 5 April 2004 02:12 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm FRIAR TUCK, BITCH!!!!

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Monday, 5 April 2004 02:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Now THAT I would pay money to see drunken assholes do at bars, before shooting each other with longbows and dying messily.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 5 April 2004 02:12 (twenty-one years ago)

dude, "you eat pieces of shit for breakfast?"

Isn't that from Happy Gilmore?

Woah. I just terrified myself.

Xii (Xii), Monday, 5 April 2004 02:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Hahaha it is.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Monday, 5 April 2004 02:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Which song on Def Jux 3?

Daniel DiMAGGIO (Daniel DiMAGGIO), Monday, 5 April 2004 02:53 (twenty-one years ago)

are you guys too good for adam sandler movies or something?

astroblaster (astroblaster), Monday, 5 April 2004 04:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I heard a local MC do the Rick James line in a freestyle on the radio about a week after that episode aired. also Luda said "I'm rich, bitch" in his guest verse on the last Big Tymers album.

Al (sitcom), Monday, 5 April 2004 04:51 (twenty-one years ago)

fuck it is happy gilmore.

argghh

brock (brock), Monday, 5 April 2004 13:35 (twenty-one years ago)

also, Sheek Louch drops the "I'm Rick James, bitch" line on the D-Block freestyle on the new Big Mike mixtape over the beat from Biggie's "Respect".

Al (sitcom), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 00:58 (twenty-one years ago)

the worst line on college dropout is when he goes "first
aaliyah now romeo must die?" makes me cringe everytime

juiceboxxx (juiceboxxx), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 01:21 (twenty-one years ago)

"Like Kathie Lee needs Regis/ that's how much I need Jesus"

Sym (shmuel), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 01:23 (twenty-one years ago)

kanye in not as good as everyone says shocker

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 01:24 (twenty-one years ago)

was he a film major in college? And before anybody tells me "no, he would have picked classier movies," understand that I went to fuckin' film school. And most of the folks there would have been ALL ABOUT Happy Gilmore/Romeo Must Die/Vanilla Sky refs.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 01:25 (twenty-one years ago)

dont forget that its a scientific fact that rappers like the worlds worst films

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 01:25 (twenty-one years ago)

i think its required to say that scarface is your favorite film if your a rapper

juiceboxxx (juiceboxxx), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 01:26 (twenty-one years ago)

all those deuce bigalow references still make me squrim

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 01:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Vanilla Sky references? What sick people did you go to school with?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 01:29 (twenty-one years ago)

People who didn't go to the PSU Film School because it meant no loans after college.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 01:30 (twenty-one years ago)

and actually I've got recorded evidence of occasional ILX poster/fellow PSU film grad Theodore Fogelsanger making an extended reference to Antitrust in a rap.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 01:31 (twenty-one years ago)

"I spit rhymes like the sesame seeds you tried to poison my shit with/Claire Forlani? I'm not the dude you fuck with"

(only makes sense if you're one of the eight people who saw the movie)

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 01:32 (twenty-one years ago)

"Trying to be a millionaire - HA! I used two lifelines
In the same hospital where Biggie Smalls died
The doctor said I had blood clots, but I ain't Jamaican man
Story on MTV and I ain't tryin to +Make a Band+"

Sym (shmuel), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 01:33 (twenty-one years ago)

i admit i kinda long for the days when "thru the wire" was this fun little mp3 download and nothing more

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 01:34 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, me too

Sym (shmuel), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 01:35 (twenty-one years ago)

kanye in not as good as everyone says shocker

The hell? 80% of what I've been hearing about him is "no flow-havin' precocious brat-type breath-control-lackin' little smarmy pissant who suxx" type comments.

Nate in ST.P (natedetritus), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 01:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Direct me to said comments so I can breathe easier and feel less alone please thank you

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 01:36 (twenty-one years ago)

though i will admit his efforts to keep stacey dash's ass and nipples on my television set are to be applauded

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 01:36 (twenty-one years ago)

heavily

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 01:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, who on ILM will buck the prevailing meme and bravely suggest that Kanye is a mediocre MC? Christ.

He has some dud lines but if he has any real shortcomings it's kind of hard for me to notice them. I think this is a natural result of listening to nothing but indie rap MCs from 1998-2001.

Nate in ST.P (natedetritus), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 01:44 (twenty-one years ago)

I was not answering my own question in the first line of that previous post. Just so that's clear.

Nate in ST.P (natedetritus), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 01:44 (twenty-one years ago)

There's also a Pootie Tang namedrop on "School Spirit," I bet he just watched a bunch of movies when he was laid up. That's what I woulda done.

Huck, Wednesday, 7 April 2004 01:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Nate is OTM, daring to call Kanye a less than stellar rapper is hardly a bold statement. even the rave reviews rarely praise him on those terms. granted, he doesn't have really strong flow or breath control, but jesus, Lil Flip gets more props than him as a rapper. there are lots of respected rappers that are at roughly the same skill level who get way less shit about their flow than him (and are way more boring).

you guys need to hear the College Dropout outtake "Livin' A Movie", it's nothing but references to mediocre movies.

Al (sitcom), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 03:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Lil' Flip is genuinely funny, though.

C0L1N B3CK3TT (Colin Beckett), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 03:18 (twenty-one years ago)
