Benicassim Festival 2004

A belter of a festival on a beach near Valencia in August, kind of like Reading or Glastonbury without the hippies, students and rock dullards. The line-up always looks so fantastic but I've never managed to get to go there. I actually had a free ticket a few years ago but couldn't even get the bastard time off.

Anyone know anything about the line-up and dates for this year's ? (the website hasn't got owt yet)

darren (darren), Monday, 5 April 2004 12:19 (twenty-one years ago)

The website has got all the 2003 bands' sets on line. So I don't call that nowt!

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 5 April 2004 12:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, nowt re 2004, natch.

darren (darren), Monday, 5 April 2004 12:22 (twenty-one years ago)

When's it on? Looking forward to some new sets on-line...

i went last year for the first time and it was fucken awesome. the beach is like a 20 minute walk away from the main site, the bands start about 6pm and finish at 8am, it is H-O-T but hey, you can go in the sea and they have yummy COLD SHOWERS in the campsites and it's generally a brilliant fucking party.
go. everyone should go. yes.
doesn't matter who's playing, you're bound to stumble across some genius spanish/belgian/whatever band you've never heard of before and fall instantly in love with.

Bloody hell Emsk, well with a recommendation like that it just has to be good. Which airport is nearest ? Valencia ? Or is there a cheapo Easyjet-type option ?

darren (darren), Monday, 5 April 2004 22:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Emsk really knows her festivals, Darren. Follow the nice lady.

suzy (suzy), Monday, 5 April 2004 23:20 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah i second emsk. I went in 2001 and it was the most insane concert experience ever for me. I'm still blown away when I look back at the lineup. only bad thing was that low and mag fields didnt show up.

Elliot (Elliot), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 03:25 (twenty-one years ago)

yep, valencia is closest airport. we paid a lot (well, about £160 return) but if we'd booked earlier i think it would've been about half that. from the airport there is a bus that goes to the train station, don't listen to the nasty people that tell you there isn't. unless you like taxis. (after last summer i am in love with spanish public transport. it's completely insane but somehow it works...) you can get a train from valencia that gets you to benicassim in an hour or something (not after about 5pm though, so get a flight that gets you in about midday/v early afternoon, to make allowances for delays) and it's REALLY cheap, 3 euros-ish. beware, there are three different campsites at the festival. we went in the one right next to the festival site and we definitely did the right thing - you have to get a bus from the other ones, and screw that... unless you want peace and quiet i guess. when we arrived on thursday night we went straight for the bar and asked the guy when it closed and he just sort of shrugged and said "...monday?" awesome party scenes. the moon is massive. you can leave stuff in your tent and it stays safe... they have all webbing over the campsites so it's shady... and friendly, friendly, friendly. i can't guarantee the shit-hot super furries experience but there'll be something equally mindblowing. in the daytime the streets of the town (the ones that run north-south, anyway) are full of sleeping indiekids in the shady half.

emsk, Tuesday, 6 April 2004 16:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Thanks for that, Emsk ! Now all we have to do is wait for the info for version 2004 !

darren (darren), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 17:02 (twenty-one years ago)

You can fly to Tarragona with Ryan Air or risk picking up a last minute charter at a discount. Not as near as Valencia, but not as far as Barcelona.

Went last year and had a blast, the line up rumours are as follow, don't know what to make of them but if they are right, this could be the best festival ever! Please anyone could send me the line up once you have the confirmation? Anyway, check this below.

And if they put them all up on the web (video / audio), triple cool.

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 12:10 (twenty-one years ago)

many other bands have to be confirmed yet, but i think the line-up is good enough as to convince all of you to come over!
and if you manage to get backstage, there is a swimming pool and free bar during the 4 days ;-)

joan vich (joan vich), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 17:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Damn, that lineup is incredible.

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 17:09 (twenty-one years ago)

by the way, brian wilson comes with the orchestra to play 'Smile', and Love come with orchestra as well (as a matter of fact they share musicians), and they'll play 'forever changes'.
only for that it deserves the trip.
and then you'll get to know a lot of fantastic spanish bands and beautiful sun tanned boys and girls ;-)

joan vich (joan vich), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 17:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Smile !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Forever Changes !!!!!!!!!!
Gotta shoot this thread back to the top again. I so wish I lived in Europe and/or wasn't poor.
