Blah blah blah, I didn't watch them either, but the only two acts I was rooting for both won!
Great Uncles of the Revolution for Best Contemporary Jazz Album and Buck 65 for Best Alternative Album.

So like, lock thread, I guess.

WHAT GIVES, CANADA??
They didn't show the Junos in Berlin.
Fortunately, I'm back in Canada in two weeks and can resume my time-wasting viewing of crappy Canadian award shows.

Just in time for the Geminis! Maybe.

I watched a bit and it was crap.

I just hope that Hawksley's nomination for songwriter of the year for the sub-par bunch found on Lover/Fighter doesn't lead him to think he's on the right track.

i still shudder at that title

I wasn't upset that Buck 65 won but I have a soft spot for the Constantines. I was kind of hoping they'd be second-time lucky.
What did upset me was Nickelback winning the voters' choice award. Actually, check that, Nickelback just upset me.

I think the whole Juno system needs an overhaul. Aaron Wherry (who's usually surprising good, and sometimes I suspect he's an ILMer) had a really good piece on what's wrong with the nomination system last week in the Nat'L Post.
Nominations in the major categories are largely based on shipping figures, which are representative of nothing more than how many copies of an album the label WOULD LIKE to sell.

I was a judge a few years back for one of the Juno categories. A friend was nominated in the category, which the committee was fully aware of.

Ignoring a conflict of interest (and asking for the input of a chump like me in the first place), is certainly one red flare about why the Junos suck.

I sat on a Factor jury a few years ago, and came away very, very sad.
