one of my favorites, and one of the two things (along with flipper's "sex bomb") that my extremely tolerant coworkers have objected to my playing in my office

haha
from wiki:
A 1973 performance of Four Organs at Carnegie Hall in New York City nearly caused a riot, with "yells for the music to stop, mixed with applause to hasten the end of the piece."[5] One of the performers, Michael Tilson Thomas, recalls: "One woman walked down the aisle and repeatedly banged her head on the front of the stage, wailing 'Stop, stop, I confess.'"[6][7]

I remember an old friend of mine telling me that Reich was the one thing her mom just could not handle listening to at all.

I wonder if there's any substance to the statement, 'women hate repetition' An old bandmate of mine was totally adamant that most did.

Former bandmate should invite me, Kate and emil.y over to rifle through his record collection in search of celestially immanent droneclouds and 20-minute motorik groove jamz
(idly wondering which of yr previous bands this was, but not expecting an answer on the internets!)
(this is not a serious answer as I realise 3 counterexamples from a fairly select music-nerd community does not really dismiss the generalisation. I have a pretty limited tolerance of repetition in non-musical contexts, my mother can't stand it in either, my father probably hates it in music more than either of us, and beyond that I have no idea)

Heh, unfortunately said bandmate is no-one you would have ever heard of, and living back in Australia now :)
It came up a few times in conversation and always in reference to tolerance of Glass/Reich, he and his then g/f used to fight over control of the stereo a lot iirc.

My other half really likes Glass/Reich, partly because it reminds her of Mike Oldfield, whom she grew up listening to by osmosis (elder brothers) Dunno how she feels about Can or The Fall mind.
