You know, bands that make you think: "I could pull that off as well as they could".

An album called Songs From The Silt by Sand On Stars uses the same exact Casio keyboard I have for both beats and tones.

Why MBV of course. If I could actually play anything. *slumps in corner and cries*

There's plenty of bands I could play rhythm guitar for. Particularly GBV pre-TVT.

1993-vintage Trumans Water - the way their songs consisted of a bunch of really simple guitar parts jammed together in a fairly sophisticated way, resulting in a sound that was complex but not complicated. (Kinda like what Beefheart might've sounded like if he wasn't always blessed with such talented guitarists.) I heard them & thought "Wish I'd thought of that!" This was 10 years ago, mind you; for all I know, TW's guitarists are super-polished now, whereas I still suck.

The Gypsy Kings

There is a video of Stereolab playing at the Rough Trade shop. It's filmed from the side, close enough that you could be actually an additional guitarist / bass player. It's everything you might expect.

Highlights include..
"OK, let's play "Seeperbold"
"Umm, which one's that?"

and laetitia asking the audience for requests...
