My guess would be Oxycontin, but does anyone know if that is a typical treatment for migraines?

Baked Bean Teeth (Baked Bean Teeth), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 00:25 (twenty-one years ago)

The release of Wilco's new Nonesuch album, "A Ghost Is Born," has been moved from June 8 to June 22 "to accommodate Tweedy's recovery."

And to play it up in press releases.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 00:28 (twenty-one years ago)

who does he think he is, kelly osbourne?

the surface noise (electricsound), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 00:29 (twenty-one years ago)

He's going through changes. *is chased down and killed*

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 00:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Wait, are you saying he's going through "the pause" ?

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 00:32 (twenty-one years ago)

maybe all he needs is a shot in the arm

the surface noise (electricsound), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 00:32 (twenty-one years ago)

he's just a bit "red-eyed and blue"

ipsofacto (ipsofacto), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 00:36 (twenty-one years ago)

And some drugs he could apparently afford on the way

Gear! (Gear!), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 00:45 (twenty-one years ago)

maybe the stress is because Tweedy's payday was not enough.

Gear! (Gear!), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 00:46 (twenty-one years ago)

am I the only person who feels sorry for the guy and doesn't really feel like posting lyric-related quips about this?

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 00:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't see why anyone should care one way or another (I mean any more than most of us care about other non-famous drug addicts in this country--which is not a hell of a lot.)

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 00:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Well I care because I really enjoyed the last three album's from the guy's band and plenty of songs from the stuff he did before that.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 00:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I hope Tweedy gets through it alright really, I'm sure he will, and his fans will let him know it's something he shouldn't be ashamed about.

Gear! (Gear!), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 00:54 (twenty-one years ago)

whoops

Gear! (Gear!), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 00:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, actually reading the article itself made me a little weirded out, since I am somewhat phobic about having random visitations of incapacitating illness.

Can someone explain to me the significane of the getting-sick scene in the movie being "out of order"? I didn't see I Am Trying so I don't know what it's all about.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 00:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, if you're a fan of Wilco you're going to care more about this than you would about non-famous drug addicts, just like you're going to care more about a friend who's a drug addict than the methhead on the corner. Whether or not you like Wilco, plenty of people do, and I'm sure they feel like they connect more with Jeff Tweedy than they do with the "other non-famous drug addicts in this country."

stephen morris, Wednesday, 7 April 2004 00:56 (twenty-one years ago)

i fail to see why this 'news' needed to be made public really. why the desire to air dirty laundry?

the surface noise (electricsound), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 00:58 (twenty-one years ago)

well if they cancel all the tour dates, people would be wondering.

teeny (teeny), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 00:58 (twenty-one years ago)

(For what it's worth, I've made efforts to enjoy Wilco, but I've never been able to get past Tweedy's voice.)

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 00:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I think the reasons are twofold in the case of any public figure: a) to head off publicity, and b) perhaps to get a little press. I can't imagine Wilco needs any more press, it's probably just the pre-emptive strike

Gear! (Gear!), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 01:00 (twenty-one years ago)

what does 'out of sequence' refer to? what is that article talking about?

Well I hope him the best. I am a bit of a Wilco fan, but I can't say that I really care about this.

Debito (Debito), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 01:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Tweedy's struggles with migraines were on display in the Wilco documentary "I am Trying To Break Your Heart." In a key scene that illustrated his irreparable rift with since-departed band member Jay Bennett, Tweedy becomes sick to his stomach from a migraine while mixing the song "Heavy Metal Drummer" for the 2002 album "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot."

In Greg Kot's upcoming Wilco book "Learning How To Die," Bennett says the footage of Tweedy becoming ill is out of sequence; Tweedy insists it is not.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 01:01 (twenty-one years ago)

I really hate the title for this book.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 01:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Why do Wilco albums need to have drama surrounding their release?

Debito (Debito), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 01:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Summerteeth didn't, and you could argue the drama around YHF wasn't really their fault.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 01:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I still don't get the 'out of sequence' bit and how that relates to the rift.

Debito (Debito), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 01:04 (twenty-one years ago)

It's true that YHF was outside of their control. Did they play it up though?

Debito (Debito), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 01:05 (twenty-one years ago)

No, but critics were happy to.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 01:05 (twenty-one years ago)

maura and i were talking about this [actually kelly osbourne] earlier, and she made the requisite "maybe [kelly o]'s chilling with tweedy" line and i flew into one of the most bizarre rages of my life.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 01:09 (twenty-one years ago)

if they get together i'm handing in my notice

the surface noise (electricsound), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 01:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I still don't get the 'out of sequence' bit and how that relates to the rift.

Is Bennett saying it looks like he, personally, is making Tweedy physically ill? I didn't see the scene that way, but it's been a while and the movie made me sleepy (I love Wilco, but the film was pretty dullsville).

m.e.a. (m.e.a.), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 01:11 (twenty-one years ago)

what about the inevitable Jeff and Kelly Variety Hour on ABC? wouldn't that be worth all the trouble?

Gear! (Gear!), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 01:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I would love to see something photoshopped with them, actually

Gear! (Gear!), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 01:12 (twenty-one years ago)

don't make me kill you

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 01:13 (twenty-one years ago)

if jeff tweedy even breathed in kelly osbourne's direction i would disembowel him under a full moon with my bared teeth and lo you would hear the lamentations of his women

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 01:13 (twenty-one years ago)

(his women being, like, pitchfork)

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 01:15 (twenty-one years ago)

is kelly osbourne attractive?

Debito (Debito), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 01:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Does the Pope shit in the woods?

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 01:16 (twenty-one years ago)

that's it, you're all on "the list"

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 01:17 (twenty-one years ago)

I wouldn't worry Jess. He's got a wife and at least three kids. Kelly O doesn't seem like his taste.

However, if I had a shot with her, I'd happily accept disembowelment afterwards.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 01:19 (twenty-one years ago)

You'd have to consider your future father-in-law.

Debito (Debito), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 01:22 (twenty-one years ago)

anthony it would be seriously hard for me to dislike you as much i dislike jeff tweedy

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 01:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Don't poke the bear

Gear! (Gear!), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 01:22 (twenty-one years ago)

by "bear" I mean Kelly Osbourne

Gear! (Gear!), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 01:24 (twenty-one years ago)

i would love to have ozzy as my father in law

the surface noise (electricsound), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 01:24 (twenty-one years ago)

anthony it would be seriously hard for me to dislike you as much i dislike jeff tweedy

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 01:25 (twenty-one years ago)

now lets not go picking out china patterns just yet pretty boy

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 01:26 (twenty-one years ago)

jack as brother-in-law on the other hand is less appealing

the surface noise (electricsound), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 01:27 (twenty-one years ago)

jack would be getting serious beat downs EVERY DAY

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 01:27 (twenty-one years ago)

logisitical ones, even

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 01:28 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd pay money to see that happen, sir.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 01:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Kelly looks a little like Jack, I got them confused at first.

Gear! (Gear!), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 01:28 (twenty-one years ago)

jack and custos: separated at birth

the surface noise (electricsound), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 01:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Cut apart with scissors.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 01:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Those dull squishy ones in preschool?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 01:29 (twenty-one years ago)

those blunt plastic ones kindergarteners use

haha xpost!!

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 01:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Beautiful. :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 01:31 (twenty-one years ago)

For the Tweedy haters: can you say what, exactly, it is you hate about Tweedy? I am not saying this in a defensive "how could you hate him" sort of way, I am just curious what it is about him that people seem to dislike so much.

Scott CE (Scott CE), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 02:29 (twenty-one years ago)

he fronts wilco

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 02:33 (twenty-one years ago)

He's troubled! At least he's not Rush Limbaugh (unless outtakes from IATTBYH surface to prove otherwise)

Donna Brown (Donna Brown), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 02:39 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't dislike him personally. I've never met the guy. I do dislike Wilco though and I could care less if they release any more music, frankly. As for his struggles with drug addiction, I care a hell of a lot more about all the junkies who aren't going to get the best care money can buy at Betty Ford than I do about YET another celeb's smack problems.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 02:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Surely Tweedy apologizes for not getting hooked on painkillers until after it had become horribly passe.

Josh Love (screamapillar), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 05:41 (twenty-one years ago)

All cliched celebs should apologize for being cliches, yes.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 06:31 (twenty-one years ago)

wilco sucks. get well jeff.

g--ff (gcannon), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 06:38 (twenty-one years ago)

For the question way way above about the sequencing: There was a scene where Jay and Jeff were having a disagreement about the mixing of "Heavy Metal Drummer." It wasn't so much an argument as an unwillingness to comprehend, and Jeff more or less gave up on trying to explain his POV to Jay. The next scene was of Jeff yakking in the bathroom and unconvincingly explaining that he'd been susceptible to illness throughout his childhood. I guess Jay doesn't want people to think he made Jeff sick (though frankly, if he wanted to take issue with his portrayal in the film, he's got better targets than that).

Apologies if I've misremembered any of this.

Joseph McCombs, Wednesday, 7 April 2004 12:09 (twenty-one years ago)

"you could argue the drama around YHF wasn't really their fault"

Please. Their manager is probably responsible for the entirety of the noise that was made about the label drama. His gloating about the irony of staying on Warners was particularly annoying. Also, I'd argue that major hype builders/whiners Kot and DeRogatis could be considered virtual members of Wilco. The band basically has it's own writers/critics amongst its fold.

danh, Wednesday, 7 April 2004 15:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Isn't "painkillers" one of those rehab euphemisms? Like "exhaustion?"

antexit (antexit), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 16:05 (twenty-one years ago)

"chemical imbalance"

Donna Brown (Donna Brown), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 16:08 (twenty-one years ago)

one month passes...
Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy has been released from rehab, following treatment for an addiction to painkillers. Tweedy told Rolling Stone, "I struggled with depression and anxiety and panic disorder. I went to a dual diagnosis center that treated the chemical dependency and the depression. I had never put it together that these things were intertwined, the depression, the migraines and the medication. I'm not embarrassed about it at all. It was a really beautiful experience." Wilco's new album, A Ghost is Born, hits stores on June 22.

teeny (teeny), Thursday, 13 May 2004 13:34 (twenty-one years ago)

I wish I could afford a dual diagnosis center

Morley Timmons (Donna Brown), Thursday, 13 May 2004 13:37 (twenty-one years ago)

"I had never put it together that these things were intertwined, the depression, the migraines and the medication."

I thought he was supposed to be smart.

Also, you forgot the part about sitting around with a bunch of drug addicts and the punch line "All my best friends are crack addicts." (It's true.) Real classy.
