KTCU played Jewel's "This Way" and Poe's "Hello" back-to-back tonight (confusing Poe with Suzanne Vega in the process), and I realized that I don't have enough of this stuff.

So what's the cream of the crop for me to download? I love Dido's singles, Sixpence None The Richer, "Building A Mystery" and "Who Will Save Your Soul," etc. - so I'm not all that picky.

Letters to Cleo and That Dog. come to mind.

and Belly.

Famous Athlete, Wednesday, 7 April 2004 03:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Belly was a little more indie-rock than I'm thinking (love the two albums I have, though).

I'm thinking of stuff that wouldn't be out of place in Dawson's Creek or My So-Called Life, maybe?

Katydids, although they're probably more early 90s

ILE just reminded me of that Joan Osborne song, must download...

The first Stretch Princess (self-titled) album is custom-made for your current obsession. If you can't find it on slsk, I'll rip it and put it up for you (username: third_i).

That Dog's Totally Crushed Out looks like something I need to track down instead of just download.

I'll search for the SP album, I've never heard of them.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 04:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Poe is excellent except for the "Hey Pretty" remix which is basically just an ad for her brother's book.

I'll search for the SP album, I've never heard of them.

They're in my shared folder on slsk now. I think the closest they came to a hit was a low rotation video for "Sorry" after it was included on the Teaching Ms. Tingle soundtrack.

Natalie Merchant? Aimee Mann? Fiona Apple?

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 04:30 (twenty-one years ago)

"Torn", Natalie with the confusing last name. You can get the whole CD for 45 cents in your better used bargain bins. Or I did anyway. That song's definitely worth 45 cents.

Mazza, Wednesday, 7 April 2004 07:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Mazzy Star.

And That Dog were ~far~ more indie-rock than Belly, dammit.

Sneaker Pimps? Everything But The Girl? Beth Orton?

Sarah Cracknell 'Lipslide' LP ('Ready or Not' is rather sweet)

on the indie-poppier tip maybe some Salad and Bellatrix...better still Blonde Redhead 'This Is Not' and Teddybears SHLTM 'Yours To Keep' if they're not too recent (both 2000 I think)

That Caterwaul album came out in 1989, Alex, but it was fab. I played that tape until it was transparent in spots.

Tiger Trap!

Donna Brown (Donna Brown), Thursday, 8 April 2004 02:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Sophie B. Hawkins - "Damn I Wish I Was Your Lover" (1992, so it might be a bit early) and "As I Lay Me Down" (1994).

Natalie Imbruglia's follow-up single to "Torn," "Wishing I Was There," was pretty decent, as well.
