i have not heard (of) any of my gifts , can some give me a heads up ?

anthonyeaston, Saturday, 27 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Ned, out of all of the albums you do have ya don't have "Done In By The Forces of Nature"????? Dude.

I always assume everybody'd have the albums I'd select anyway, so I would elect to buy candy instead. Who doesn't like candy?

Nicole, Saturday, 27 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Ned, out of all of the albums you do have ya don't have "Done In By The Forces of Nature"????? Dude.

Ahem. I knew the band pretty much by default back then, as the Native Tongues bunch were getting some major publicity, and heard some of the singles, but never got around to actually getting the album. I should note that there are people who would express outrage that I don't have any Bob Dylan or Bruce Springsteen, but believe me, that's a much more conscious exclusion. ;-)

ethan, Saturday, 27 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

anthony:

quasimoto is an alter ego of west coast mc/ producer madlib, the unseen is a lovely melodic hiphop album with lots of spoken word bits and silly humor. el baile aleman is the famed tropicalia kraftwerk covers album. blackalicious is another clever melodic west coast underground hiphop group, this ep is the best thing they've done that's readily available. you probably remember biz markie for 'just a friend', that's the album it's from, overall quality of production and jokes very high and less sparse than 'goin off'. japancakes is a sleepy orchestral collective from here in athens, lots of dreamy cellos and violins with touches of pedal steel.

ethan, Saturday, 27 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

oh shit, jess, sorry. you get the beach boys' wild honey because you're said you're in lurve and believe me it sounds wonderful when you are. you can't have my copy though.

ethan, Saturday, 27 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Wot's with all the "Puffy" purchases? Are people trying to say that my ass looks puffy?

Maybe it's just the bags under my eyes. Yeah, that's it.

Nicole, Saturday, 27 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I'm gettin' nuthin' for Xmas, mommy and daddy are mad. I'm gettin' nuthin' for Xmas, cause I've been nothing but bad.

Sean Carruthers, Saturday, 27 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I guess my "goateed Olympia girls" comment put me on jess's shit list. How can I be possibly forgiven? *sniff* *sob*

Brian MacDonald, Saturday, 27 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

damnit brian, you were supposed to go on the second list! in fact i already had the...

"sonig comp."

...picked out for you.

jess, Saturday, 27 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Ethan...Jess...hello?

suzy, Saturday, 27 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

suzy, you get a copy of "german cabaret classics" for no other reason as it is the poshest-sounding record i own.

i find it odd that ethan and i both picked a uwe schmidt/atom heart production for anthony.

jess, Saturday, 27 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Very kind of you, Jess & Ethan. Jess: I have Undirected but have never heard of Variations. Is that a new one? Ethan: Please explain Rush Hour 2.

I'd get both of y'all the new Electric Ladyland click-hop comp. on Mille Plateaux. Fuck glitch-hop, it's all about the click-hop.

Mark, Saturday, 27 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

it has that new meth joint on it, you'd like it.

ethan, Saturday, 27 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I'm sincerely touched and will look up the recommended albums. I feel like everyone could do a better job than I of finding albums they like so I will also just give out chocolates. Though I did send a mix tape for Ethan on Saturday (couldn't find the old ILE thread):

A) Maryanne Amacher - "Head Rhythm 1" and "Plaything 2"
My Bloody Valentine - "Glider"
Ryoji Ikeda - Tracks 4-7 of Matrix, Disc 2
Immersion - "Self-Portrait (Immersed Diary)"
Rake - "Beak"

The Locust - "Moth-Eaten Deer Head"
Team Dresch - "Screwing Yer Courage"
Yes - "Starship Trooper"
Iron Butterfly - "Termination"
Unrest - "Breather XOXO"
Teenage Jesus and the Jerks - "Orphans"
Nagamani Srinath - "Samagana"
Sonic Youth - "Secret Girl"
Nico - "No One Is There"

Muskrat Love! You bastard Harvell.

RickyT, Sunday, 28 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

i *wracked* my brain for badger related music, richard. WRACKED. that should at least show that a. i'm paying attention and b. i care. ;)

jess, Sunday, 28 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Thanks Jess, everyone thinks I'm posh now that I stopped lighting my own farts with a Zippo and saying 'ain't'.

suzy, Monday, 29 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Ethan and Jess: thank you for the gifts, though both serve only to confuse me.

Mark: click-hop vs glitch-hop - what is the diff?

Tim, Monday, 29 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Actually, no difference that I know of. That's just the subtitle MP used for this particular comp. I like "glitch hop" better, but what the hell.

Mark, Monday, 29 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Thanks.

I picked you both up some magnificent lingerie.

Ronan, Monday, 29 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

What's the thing you said for me Jess? I'm ignorant.

I always read good things about Ghostface Killah but never bought stuff.

Ronan, Monday, 29 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Wow, Capone n Noreaga. I'm touched. (writing this from "Beirut" or whatever they call Brooklyn)

I'm getting you the 12" of "Sandwiches" by Detroit Grand Pubas

Tracer Hand, Monday, 29 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

good choice for me -- PJ Harvey, Steppenwolf, and Run DMC together at last. But where's the Scorpions?

Sterling Clover, Monday, 29 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

ronan:

indestructible beat of soweto

don't ask me why.

jess, Monday, 29 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)
