I guess I'LL be the one to start the thread about the new Sunburned Hand of the Man CD, then

Rare Wood. Out on the great Spirit of Orr Records.

First listen - I like it, maybe better than Headdress. The synth was a bit jarring at first, but the vocals are awesome. I'm so glad they are regularly incorporating singing now.

Any thoughts?

I so knew who started this thread.

The new Portals of San Jacinto record is a lot better.

Dealing with a major bout of insomina, I was heartened to read this thread title. I just went straight to a little place called s-l-s-k and it ain't giving up the goods. I can't wait to hear this one . . . I'm lucky enough to live in Boston where I can pick up a copy tomorrow, but I want to hear it RIGHT NOW.

Upon further reflection, there couldn't have been a more useless contribution to this thread than mine. It's the insomnia talking.

southern lights (southern lights), Friday, 9 April 2004 05:34 (twenty-one years ago)

I think mine was more useless (although this post positing my previous posts worthlessness may be even more useless.)

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Friday, 9 April 2004 05:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, I assure you - mine takes the cake.

Broheems (diamond), Friday, 9 April 2004 05:37 (twenty-one years ago)

But yours is almost informative (admittedly it is informing us about another record, but still. . .)

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Friday, 9 April 2004 05:39 (twenty-one years ago)

haha, man I'm sorry - that was just a totally made-up name. It's actually a name that sometime-poster Baked Bean Teeth came up with to poke fun at the whole "limited pressing" "weird / outsider" coterie (and their penchant for precious, rococo monikers).

Broheems (diamond), Friday, 9 April 2004 05:45 (twenty-one years ago)

it's not as good a band name as the Whims of Chester.

hstencil, Friday, 9 April 2004 05:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I've never even heard Suburned Hand of the Man. I'm sure they could potentially change my life! I just couldn't resist the lame joke. I do hope to check them out at some point. It's just, you know, a man can't hear everything..

Broheems (diamond), Friday, 9 April 2004 05:48 (twenty-one years ago)

they didn't change my life, that's for sure. Just okay, not worthy of crazy hyperbole.

hstencil, Friday, 9 April 2004 05:52 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll be the first to admit that I launched a full-scale Portals of San Jacinto web search onslaught. Joke's on me. I really wish I was asleep right now.

southern lights (southern lights), Friday, 9 April 2004 05:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Hahaha I would have gone to MY GRAVE thinking "that Sunburned Hand of Man album isn't as good as that Portals of San Jacinto one" if you hadn't of given away the joke!!!

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Friday, 9 April 2004 05:53 (twenty-one years ago)

When I first heard about Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, I immediately thought "what is that, some newfangled hippie noise collective?"

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 9 April 2004 05:54 (twenty-one years ago)

also BBT should not complain about people releasing "weird/outsider" records, in my opinion.

hstencil, Friday, 9 April 2004 06:04 (twenty-one years ago)

fuck that, i'd rather listen to "halve maen" twenty or thirty more times. today.

i feel like SbHotM is getting way more attention than the music justifies at this point. go download a moevot tape instead.

yes but he doesn't release stupidly limited CDRs/lathe type bullshit

the surface noise (electricsound), Friday, 9 April 2004 07:52 (twenty-one years ago)

nobody's going to accuse corwood of pandering to collector scum now are they?

four months pass...
I'm listening to this now at work. Pretty disappointed with it, actually. I think the vocals are terrible, especially on "Easy Wind." Gimme NNCK over this any day.

Jeff Sumner (Jeff Sumner), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 16:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Is "Easy WInd" a Dead cover?

Monetizing Eyeballs (diamond), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 16:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Not sure. And actually, I will admit that the last two songs are pretty good.

Jeff Sumner (Jeff Sumner), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 19:15 (twenty-one years ago)

three years pass...

New album, Fire Escape, is out soon, produced by Four Tet and with a cover by EYE:

It's nice, kind of an Art Ensemble Of Chicago as circus act thing (in a ringing chamber way, some feathers fly and float).

dow, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 04:23 (seventeen years ago)

one month passes...

fire escape is really good!

can't wait for the vinyl version, the EYE cover will look much more impressive than it currently does in a jewel case.

haitch, Wednesday, 24 October 2007 01:34 (seventeen years ago)

Microsoft sucks! Now listen to my song...

The only Sunburned release I have is No Magic Man. Can anyone give me a loose description of this album? I'm getting a paycheck soon and I feel like I need to invest.

trashthumb, Wednesday, 24 October 2007 01:49 (seventeen years ago)

one year passes...

only took them 18 months but smalltown supersound finally have the teriffic fire escape out on vinyl, with a side-long bonus track and the retina-scorching EY3 artwork in all its glory.
