Faulty lyrics

Many pop songs contain lyrics which are erroneous.
I just listened to Alex Chilton. He sings something like "Small town in Indonesia. Bangkok" which is rubbish as Bangkok is the capital of Thailand.
Or Neil Young who sings of "Johnny Rotten who will never be forgotten" when he means Sid Vicious as Johnny Rotten is still alive and kicking.
Have you got more examples of songs with totally wrong lyrics?

New Order of course managed to combine appalling rhyme (other thread) with misleading financial information: "here comes love: it's like honey, you can't buy it with money". i suppose the get out is that love is only LIKE honey -- one of the more important ways that it doesn't actually resemble honey is that you cannot buy it with money. honey of course being available at very reasonable prices at budgens. still it is poetically insensitive (at least 3 points off the license) to mention that a is like b, and then in the next clause to pick on (nay sing the praise of) one of the few ways that a is entirely unlike b.

Can we mention tautologies?

Leonard Cohen: "The Sisters of Mercy they are not departed or gone"

Say what? I didn't think departed/gone was an either/or option.

I've puzzled over that 'or' so much I am quite willing to accept this as a misheard lyric.

The whole "when the Winston Churchills are firing their Winston rifles... and smoking their Winston cigarettes" bit from the Lift to Experience album (there's no such thing as a Winston rifle... not that it doesn't sound cool anyway).

departed suggests a pyshically leaving , gone a metaphoric or philsophical one

"Think of Memphis, a small city, home of Elvis and the ancient Greeks'- Talking Heads 'Cities' . Well, it was in Egypt actually, but it sure does scan well. Then there was that illiterate Noel G and Chemicals collaboration- I forget its title ('how does it feel like...')

Stereophonics-Have a Nice Day.

Obviously they don't realise that hearing that song ruins any chance of me having a nice day.

Also doesnt he say something like "cruise around all day, have a drink of cheese". We're from "WORKING CLASS BACKGROUNDS, IF PEOPLE AT HOME IN OUR WORKING CLASS VILLAGE SAW US NOW THEY'D SAY WE WERE POOFTERS, COS THATS WHAT WE WORKING CLASS PEOPLE CALL PEOPLE WHO DONT LOOK WORKING CLASS, PEOPLE WHO DONT DRINK CHEESE, POOFTERS"

Did I mention that fucking drummer? I'll bet it was his idea to dress up as a clown for that bloody awful dirge "Mr Writer" . If Keith Flynt wasn't allowed on TOTP before the watershed how can they let that fuckwit on. He'd scare more small children than any other act.

How have I turned this into a rant about the Phonics, I don't know but I think some things have to be said. Like, "It doesn't matter how many times you mention Bruce Springsteen or Neil Young Kelly, you're never going to be as talented".

Easy target I know but what a bunch of arseholes.
