New Crispy Ambulance album C/D?

New Crispy Ambulance album is here. They were one of my favourite bands ever, then got back together etc etc. I don't want to explain the story. I want someone to comment who was also a fan of their earlier work. I've looked all over for reviews of this "The Powder Blind Dream" but it's just too new, I think. If you never liked them to begin with, frankly, I'm not interested in your opinion. If you thought they were just Joy Division clones, man, I'm not interested.

Me? I'm a mass of inner conflict. I hated "Scissorgun", except for maybe the first track. I also thought "Accessory After The Fact" was somewhat disappointing. But this new album hits me both ways. The half of me that likes it feels it's a private, guilty pleasure because the other half of me is saying "But as good as they WERE?!"

I will say this...I think if they could do one more album...they might really transcend themselves.

i know little of their early work to be honest, but the a track from the last album, "loupgarou", appeared on a couple of compilations and i have to say i really like it despite it having a fairly dated (baggy) vibe. how does this song compare to the rest of the recent output?

Okay I'm bringing this thread back, and I'm gonna continue to do so until someone out there who's half as much as a C.A. fan as me comments on this new CD. I managed to get it on April 6, so you've had plenty of time to form an opinion.

Surface Noise, no offense at all. If "Loop Garou" does it for you, more power to you. If "Scissorgun" as an album does it for you, hey, that's great. I just honestly don't want to be bothered with refamiliarizing myself with what "Loop Garou" sounded like in order to reply to your question. I still feel it's not right to compare this new album to "Scissorgun" - the only suitable comparison for it is to their earlier material.

As a long time Crispy Ambulance fan, I remain impressed. I LIKE the new album because it SOUNDS like THEM, like THEIR style.

It's indeed very them. There's nothing on it like "The Presence" in terms of length and stretched out breadth, but dang it can sure as hell be fiery.

Thanks much, Ned. Cheers.

It has been way too long since this band was mentioned on this board.

one year passes...

Last night a couple of friends were at our house and dusted off from my shelves some old Factory records: Section 25's Key of dreams (a great album) and The Plateau Phase, an album I criminally almost forgot. It still sounds better than a lot of other early 80's releases - I guess its now time to buy Fin (Ned's review on AMG sounds more than promising).

Indeed. ;-)

You're welcome, Jim! Hey, if you're gonna insult me here, I think you're a douche too.

oh yes FITE!!!

worm? lol (J0hn D.), Friday, 5 June 2009 13:36 (sixteen years ago)

Nah, I'm not in the mood. People who say completely unprovoked things to me on the internet that they would never say to my face in person are pretty ridiculous and immature.

Born Again Atheist (Bimble), Friday, 5 June 2009 13:55 (sixteen years ago)

Can I quote you on that?

Ned Raggett, Friday, 5 June 2009 14:25 (sixteen years ago)

Hahaha, sure!

Having given this some thought, I would like to know:

what kind of person revives a thread for the sole purpose of insulting a particular poster?

I challenge anyone to produce even one instance when I have done that on this board in the 5 years I've been here.

You know frankly Jim, you've always been a bit of dick anyway. I'm not bothered.

But I'll have you know that there was one time I made you laugh on ILE.
And another time when you actually seemed to want to know if I'd seen that wonderful Martin Hannett clip on You Tube you posted.

You can't call me a "total douche" for 5 years, you cunt.

Go eat one, really, I'm done here.

Wow, so I just recently caught up to the Plateau Phase and I have to say that it's way more unique than I expected it to be. I expected a sort of Joy Division / Certain Ratio-lite, but they've actually got a much more nuanced sound. Only listened to the Plateau Phase expanded edition once so far, but what a unique album.

Totally different head. Totally. (Austin), Monday, 1 October 2018 20:29 (seven years ago)
