On first listen: more interesting than Surrender, but its actual quality remains a *mystery* to these ears. Tell me whether I like this. Or, since I do like this, tell me how much?

Is it out?

That was hushed up. Or did you get a promo or something. I want it I want it I want it. Er. I'd love to give an honest opinion on it. It began in Afrika is a great track, although not as much of a statement single as Block Rocking Beats was. In fact they have b-sides off Surrender that are better than "Afrika" but it still rocks.

Sorry, I forgot to apoligise for the ELITISM of this thread: only MP3 pirates can reply.

I can see Tom telling Ed Santa Claus won't be visiting the Chemical household this Christmas. You thieves.

Oh, I don't know, Ronan
  1. Napster certainly helped Radiohead to plug "Kid A" to a US number 1. (First UK record to do so since The Prodigy with "Fat of the Land"!) If it's a good album, the "promo" version of "Come With Us" (Yes, that's the official title now, not "Chemical Four".) floating around on the internet might help with word of mouth. And although I've only heard a few tracks floating around, most of it does sound good, if suprisingly immaculately produced for the Chems. "Afrika", "Hoops", "Star Guitar" and "Denmark" are pretty decent, and the only real wierd one I've heard is the title track, which sounds pretty "random" in places.
  2. It's release date is Jan 28.

Ok.. I just heard this. The urgency in the "Come with us" beginning of the album sounds nice to me.... its like they took the sound/music of a sci-fi flick in its entirety and freaked out with it in the studio. "It Began in Afrika" is good although under all the tribal drumming and wild animals the track sounds slightly by-the-numbers for the Chemicals. "Starguitar" wouldn't sound out of place on Discovery if there were a vocoder bit added. I also like some of these symphonic Danny Elfman-ish samples going on (My Elastic Eye). I'm not sure about the vocal tracks though... did we need another Beth Orton collaboration?

It does sound like there's more going on here than on Surrender but I have to sort it all out.

I'm in a similar dilemma, Tim. So far, my main reaction has been "light-years better than _Surrender_" and that has excited me so much that I haven't taken the time to actually figure out if I like the damn thing or not.

Regardless, "Star Guitar" is phenuckingomenal.

two months pass...
Of course We needed another Beth Orton Collaberation! I think it's great. A thing I've come to expect. Personally I think some of the best tracks are hoops and star Guitar. The Video for Star Guitar is really neat. Although I'd have to see a high quality version (I downloaded a .qt from directorfile.somethingorother) to see exactly how synced up the video and the song are. As for the mp3 thing, Yeah I downloaded a lot of the mp3's before buying the album. Do I feel guilty? Hell No! Currently I'm strapped for cash, but It's not like I'm not going to go out and buy The Album on CD AND Vinyl when I do have the money. I love the chems so I do support them by buying the package. Plus I need the Vinyl to play out. Mp3 mixers aren't exactly handed out.
