Royal Crescent Mob - Classic or Dud?

I heard 'Get on the Bus' last night - It failed to bring about the same excitement that it once did. RC Mob were never great musicians, but (ooh, ahh) they got the spirit (yeah.)

They were the critics' darlings in the late 80s - but maybe that was because the only other group of white punks making funk records were the Red Hot Chilipeppers (bona fide Duds) and the Big Boys, (who were fucking genious, but unknown, even to the critics.)

I see 'Spin the World' in the used bins all the time - not really their best effort, but maybe it's their legacy.

Were they from Bath?

They were from Columbus (?), Ohio. Harold "Happy" Chichester went on to form Howlin' Maggie; 1996's "Honeysuckle Strange" is not particularly funky (although I like it), more Ass Ponys-American Gothic.

I last spoke to Happy a year ago; he and two other members of RCM were touring as part of the Twilight Singers and at that time said that in the new year they expected to release a new Howlin' Maggie record. However, there's been no news since then.

Oh, I thought they were maybe named after the Royal Crescent in Bath. I had in mind a funk-rock Wurzels. How disappointing!

It is only Happy and Carlton the drummer from RC mob with (2) new guys in Howlin' Maggie. The new CD HYDE came out in early November 2001...it is amazing! I bought it through their website at howlinmaggie.com. They are even tourting now. YOU REALLY Should check it out. I heard the old RC MOB singer is working for the googoo dolls or something like
