No.

"That's the Way it Is" is a great single. She has a helluva voice. Too bad she sticks mainly to plodding ballads.

The last good song that Celine did was, IMHO, "Falling Into You", because it was a tad surprising. The fact that it was five years ago both says alot and pretty much undermines any certainty I might have about it *still* being good.

Celine Dion has a nice enough voice, though her enunciation is just about the worst I've ever heard and that always loses points with me. But she does the most godawful songs, love ballads and overdramatic mush. She is the sonic equvilent of Dawson's Creek.

Ally, Monday, 19 February 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Celine's diction isn't the greatest, true, but there's NO WAY that she could win a mush mouth competition with Anita Baker AND Toni Braxton out there.

I agree that she needs better songs. I think she accidentally turned herself into the soundtrack queen by doing that song from "Beauty and the Beast". Actually, if you moved Toni Braxton's songs up a fifth, Celine could do some of them very well, particularly "You're Making Me High".

Her french songs with JJ Goldman are eminently better.

Sorry, you've just reminded me instantly of that classic situation of "French teacher / schools TV programme trying to be trendy" about 10 years ago ...

Jean-Jacques Goldman being mentioned in my work book for "Quinze Minutes" during Daytime On Two. There's a fucking memory.

Celine became aligned wih David Foster at a young age. This is equivalent to becoming aligned with Clive Davis in the 1960's.

Celine's mystique is as much responsible for her success as is her talent...

Dorian Gray, Sunday, 4 March 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Basically pretty awful, although 'My Heart Will Go On' has a lovely melody.

Ally C, Monday, 5 March 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Celine's MYSTIQUE ???!!??

Patrick, Monday, 5 March 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

She's so super-talented, though. I'd go to her show in Vegas.

I'm listening to her on youtube and wondering if this is the inevitable corollary of too much time on ILM

Plaxico (I know, right?), Wednesday, 15 April 2009 15:10 (sixteen years ago)

Celine Dion's music is, was and e'er shall be completely indefensible shit.

I am sick of people picking on her looks, she is gorgeous! Even in those unflattering pictures.

don't smurf (u s steel), Monday, 4 April 2011 20:01 (fourteen years ago)

twelve years pass...

I don’t have time or interest to go thru her discography but “Falling Into You” is schmaltzy, sure but also a beautiful piece of dream pop.
