For the quiet pastoralism of "I'm going in a field", and the fact that I never actually got round to doing the trance/rave remix of it... vs the 'world at our feet' conceit of "Being Brave" what the hell...

― mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 29 April 2004 13:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Who do you think you are? CRW??

― Buster (mokey), Thursday, 29 April 2004 14:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, I vote Ivor Cutler for what it's worth...

― mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 29 April 2004 14:17 (twenty-two years ago)

I believe in bugs, also.

― Buster (mokey), Thursday, 29 April 2004 14:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

― CRW (CRW), Thursday, 29 April 2004 15:13 (twenty-two years ago)

So that's two nil for Ivor Cutler then.

― mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 30 April 2004 08:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Three nil.

"'Canada!' he would shout..."

― OleM (OleM), Friday, 30 April 2004 08:13 (twenty-two years ago)

ETERNAL! LOUISE ! DRINK!!

― jack (mark grout), Friday, 30 April 2004 08:42 (twenty-two years ago)

You're not fooling anyone, "jack".

― Buster (mokey), Friday, 30 April 2004 08:43 (twenty-two years ago)

This is far too sophisticated to be a CRW thread.

― Sick Nouthall (Nick Southall), Friday, 30 April 2004 09:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, but who gets your vote?

― Buster (mokey), Friday, 30 April 2004 09:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Menswear, if only cos I don't know any Ivor Cutler.

― Sick Nouthall (Nick Southall), Friday, 30 April 2004 09:37 (twenty-two years ago)

You may as well kill me.

― Sick Nouthall (Nick Southall), Friday, 30 April 2004 09:37 (twenty-two years ago)

I keep on seeing Ivor wandering up and down Kentish Town Road, looking a bit bedraggled and bewildered. I am a bit worried. I thought about going up and having a chat, but then I remembered the last time I met him, at a reading I was managing, and how I had addressed him as 'Ivor' and how he had responded 'That's MR CUTLER to you, young man!'. But he was a pussycat, really.

― Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Friday, 30 April 2004 09:40 (twenty-two years ago)

He used to be a school teacher, you know. Once a school teacher...

― mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 30 April 2004 09:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Grout, you are a genius. Only a genius could possibly present us with such an impossible choice.

― the music mole (colin s barrow), Friday, 30 April 2004 09:43 (twenty-two years ago)

It's 4-1 so far...

― mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 30 April 2004 09:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Ivor Cutler. By a whisker.

― the music mole (colin s barrow), Friday, 30 April 2004 09:49 (twenty-two years ago)

I stand alone.

― Sick Nouthall (Nick Southall), Friday, 30 April 2004 09:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh geez. It's like being asked to choose between Mary and Jesus.

WWCS?

― mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 30 April 2004 09:54 (twenty-two years ago)

WWCD?

― mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 30 April 2004 09:58 (twenty-two years ago)

I keep on seeing Ivor wandering up and down Kentish Town Road, looking a bit bedraggled and bewildered...

I'm just glad to hear he's still alive.

― Buster (mokey), Friday, 30 April 2004 10:03 (twenty-two years ago)

you see this one is tuff. i have for years never understood the appeal of Ivor Cutler. i used to hang out with kid at school way back in the mid-80's who worshipped him, never got into his words of wisdom.
then he was featured on a FAX ambient album that was ace other than his additions.
so i would love to side with Sick-ness just to stand apart. but .. its Menswear ? and that makes it tuff.
but het .. to add some balance. give me music industry sanctioned indie guitar pop music over weird ramblings of a lovely old man any day .. (i realise this will make me a hated man round some parts .. but hey .. i can live with that. and my menswear album)

― ladyintheradiator (ladyinradiator), Friday, 30 April 2004 18:14 (twenty-two years ago)

don't give me the small talk...

― mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 30 April 2004 19:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Another for Ivor. I can't say I have any fond memories of Menswear's music; I remember mildly disliking them. Of course, my mind could change if I heard them again and found I'd been missing something, but it don't seem that likely to me. They do have their defenders - or defender - around here somewhere, don't they? ;-)

― Tom May (Tom May), Friday, 30 April 2004 20:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Ivor Cutler for what it's worth.

I mean Menswear sucked so hard that they did the ‘i want to look 1996 and foolish’ classic move whereby you substitute an '@' for an 'a'. fucking stupid. Though maybe they really wanted to be called Menswater but needed to masonically code it for fear of alienating the nuLad BritTwat fraternity...?

― james porter (james porter), Friday, 30 April 2004 23:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Ivor Cutler on a documentary I saw many years ago, walking on grass in a public park in bare feet. trouser legs rolled up, while his beautiful old wife watched from a bench - she may have even been knitting. Ivor: "I let sensations permeate through my feet into my unconscious and I skim it off the surface... also, I'm an incurable show-off".
