I know I was joining in with you all yawning over Broken Social Scene recently (tho I stand by my defense of "Cause = Time") but I just downloaded a song by Feist (allegedly the girl from BSS) and it's pretty amazing.

She's dating Chris Murphy from Sloan, eh? That's all I know...

Oh, and apparently, he takes his laundry to the laundromat on a skateboard.

the song is called "Mushaboom" or something

roger adultery (roger adultery), Saturday, 1 May 2004 17:12 (twenty-one years ago)

mmm, mushaboom's by far the best track on that record.

mark p (Mark P), Saturday, 1 May 2004 17:43 (twenty-one years ago)

I love "Mushaboom," particularly the weird Diwali-like claps in there. I had no idea she was related to Broken Social Scene. Apparently there's some Jamie Lidell connection on the 10" - coproduction or something. It's luscious, though. Mark, the rest of the LP isn't as good?

philip sherburne (philip sherburne), Saturday, 1 May 2004 18:29 (twenty-one years ago)

there are some alright tracks on it but nothing really comparable to mushaboom. i guess i find it a little too politely-produced. the phrase 'adult-oriented rock' comes to mind.

I think the album rocks. Sound of the summer...

i've come around on the record in a big way, btw.

That makes is 2-0 in favor, then. Amazon's counterargument is that beauty is truth, truth $30 plus shipping. Avast.

The video for "One Evening" is very cool, with Leslie Feist and Buck 65 doing a funny little dance routine.

And yeah, this is a fine, fine album.

I really love the little merry-go-round melody that shows up at the end. They should have developed it more. I have to sit through three minutes of the song before I hear it!

I saw a BSS video the other day and see does the same dance moves in it, despite the tempos and styles of music being played in each are very different. I was kinda hurt by her lack of variety of moves, especially considering the dance show setting of "One Evening" totally makes that video great.
