Taking Sides: The Cardigans VS The Prodigy

The Prodigy have always been a bit rubbish haven't they?

On the other hand The Cardigans are just fab. Sexy lead singer, top tunes and one of the finest albums of last year (sadly underrated). Much better than some spikey haired goon screaming about lighting things on fire.

Cardigans win this very easily.

TS: "beige" emulsion paint vs "desert mushroom" emulsion paint.

"sexy" lead singer, feh.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Saturday, 1 May 2004 22:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Don't really give enough of a damn about either, but I'll go with the Prodigy, as "Firestarter" remains as amusing today as it did in what? `96? `97? Whereas I can't recall the last time I ever felt the urge to listen to the Cardigans.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 1 May 2004 22:17 (twenty-one years ago)

The Prodigy is all about "Android", "G-Force", "Music Reach", "Break And Enter", "Diesel Power", and "Everybody In The Place". "Firestarter" can eat a dick.

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Saturday, 1 May 2004 23:00 (twenty-one years ago)

That Cardigans song that they play on the radio is like the best single ever

bill stevens (bscrubbins), Saturday, 1 May 2004 23:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Both had banned videos, of course. TS: Decapitation vs lesbian rowdiness.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Saturday, 1 May 2004 23:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Cardigans, cause they cover Sabbath.

Helltime Producto (Pavlik), Saturday, 1 May 2004 23:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Sonny A. (Keiko), Saturday, 1 May 2004 23:38 (twenty-one years ago)

noodle vague (noodle vague), Sunday, 2 May 2004 00:22 (twenty-one years ago)

there are two sabbath covers

keith m (keithmcl), Sunday, 2 May 2004 00:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Just because they covered Sabbath doesn't mean they did it well.

"Diesel Power"...forgot about that one...also wildly superior to the Cardigans.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 2 May 2004 01:02 (twenty-one years ago)

'iron man' is not so great as a cover but 'sabbath bloody sabbath' is improved by the cardigans.

keith m (keithmcl), Sunday, 2 May 2004 01:21 (twenty-one years ago)

I was referring to "Iron Man" ... didn't know about SBS. I guess I should check that out too ...

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Sunday, 2 May 2004 01:32 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, it's on the first record which is much better than the second. actually i guess emmerdale was the first record but a lot of it ended up on life anyhow.

keith m (keithmcl), Sunday, 2 May 2004 02:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Um, who are the Cardigans again? I don't usually listen to music that sucks.

maria b (maria b), Sunday, 2 May 2004 14:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Meow!

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 2 May 2004 14:51 (twenty-one years ago)

the two bands are not so different when you think about it

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 2 May 2004 15:29 (twenty-one years ago)

There is one Cardigans song on my iPod, and four Prodigy songs. Therefore Prodigy win 4-1.

Sick Nouthall (Nick Southall), Sunday, 2 May 2004 15:35 (twenty-one years ago)

This is how I'm going to respond to all CRW threads in future.

Sick Nouthall (Nick Southall), Sunday, 2 May 2004 15:35 (twenty-one years ago)

By that logic, it's a tie on my iPod.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 2 May 2004 15:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Bread vs. Impaled Nazarene

uh, Sunday, 2 May 2004 16:03 (twenty-one years ago)

i liked the early Cardigans stuff for that INDIE EDGE it had. i think it's a shame that's been missing from their recent stuff which has been competent and nice but not much else - they sounded more like some American MOR band on their last album, fair enough if that's what they want to do but ehhh...

The Prodigy also lost their INDIE EDGE after their first two albums, and whilst retaining competence, tightness and sonic shock and awe (Baby's Got A Temper had a great power to it but seemed maybe too compressed to really kick ass - same problem with a lot of nu-metal) on more recent output ended up sounding too predictable

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 2 May 2004 16:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Dan is OTM about Everybody in the Place, Firestarter truly can eat a dick, also it's not offered as a ringtone on Cingular!!!

Allyzay, Monday, 3 May 2004 02:07 (twenty-one years ago)

at least Prodigy didn't release a single on Sony Records called 'My Favorite Game', culled from their album 'Gran Turismo'. But then, the Prodigy are pretty awful, despite how well constructed the Smack My Bitch Up video is..
